I think stories of walking on the field after games and onto the court at Anderson is simply a reflection of being BG. This is why the common fan becomes so loyal to the program and you feel so connected to the players. From these stories the athletic department should encourage a meet and greet after the games on the field. More fans with greater connection and loyalty to the program are key to success at a program the size of BG. You simply don't get that everywhere and I hope the powers to be never forget that the fan-friendly atmosphere is what makes BG simply BG to many.

On the topic of threats posed by chewing gum on the new turf
It all depends on who is at the stadium, as to if somebody spitting gum on the field is a danger.
BGSU fans wouldn't do it.
Miami fans think chewing gum is SOoo bourgeois.
Ohio fans chew tobacco which is bio-degradable.
Marshall fans have no teeth to chew with.
There aren't any UB fans.
UT fans would if they could chew and walk at the same time.

The athletic department could decide to go either way. They could decide to keep the tradition of letting people on the field or they could choose to protect the field from food and other things. But think about this when we had grass you could still get gum on the field, and you could get nachos on the grass. I think they should let people on the field, if it AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

Spit gum on your living room carpet, then spit some on your lawn. Let me know which comes out easier.zeket10 wrote: But think about this when we had grass you could still get gum on the field, and you could get nachos on the grass.
I don't think it's as big an issue as has been brought up, but it's something to think about if the administration wants to protect their new investment. I think "other schools" that don't allow folks on their field have done so regardless of surface. I'd imagine things wouldn't change at BG, and Noah will have to find something else to cry about.

In this case, I see your son's pain as a good thing.1987alum wrote:Ouch.
Of course, when he's able to run on the field after a future BG game, he's gonna think his dad's a liar and then it's all downhill...

As much as I don't like turf for football, multiply that by 1 billion times for my feelings on turf for baseball.factman wrote:I can tell you that Kent State does NOT allow anyone to chew seeds on their new "turf" baseball field!
I actually think that there should be a baseball governing body that makes it illegal to play baseball on artificial turf. It's ridiculous and completely changes the game. Why hit a well struck ball when all I have to do is drive it into the turf and it will bounce over the infielders' heads? The game is meant for grass PERIOD.
