I'm not a big fan of the new logo either, but it does look a lot brighter in there from how I remember it.
Really the arena is fine and has been fine. That's not been stopping us from winning hockey games. Time to put a good product on that beautiful sheet of ice.

There are underlying problems with the arena that aren't readily obvious. Some of which are pretty bad. The amount of money needed to fix them is not small by a long shot and, once fixed, the arena would look exactly like it does now. Better to put that money into a new facility.

And the leaky roof that nobody seems to be able to fix. Those buckets look so nice on a rainy day.

The list isn't a short one.

I've said all along that the inside of the bldg is just great...It's the outside and the parking lot that need a TON of work!

The Ice Arena is a lot like Jim Fixx....he was the guy who advocated running as an exercise. He wrote a number of books about it and got millions of people into jogging. He looked great...healthy...lean...vibrant

The he dropped dead of a heart attack.

So, while the cosmetics of the building may be adequate, they may mask some serious problems.

Oh yeah...this wouldn't be a hockey thread if soemone didn't say ......

I find this thread interesting. I have not been to a BG game in person since '96, after attending or working nearly every home game from 77-92. It sounds like they still have the same refridgeration and compressors as they did when I worked there in 90-91, which if I recall correctly was the original stuff from '67 then. 40 years old this year if I understand you guys correctly...that's both amazing and pathetic if true. Even more amazing is that one of the guys that got the place built, started the program, help start the CCHA, was the first coach and is to this day one of the foremost "experts" on ice arena design and management, Jack Vivian, has not had some input into this. He was my advisor at BG before he went to UM. He got UM to renovate Yost in the 90's and I know he had a large part in the recent Miami build(a program he also helped start). Wonder why he has nothing to do with BG now??? I know for a fact the BG program is very dear to his heart...like I said it was HIS baby....weird...wonder if he is getting the cold shoulder from the powers in charge now or something.....

Are there plans to build a new rink or facility?? or renovate the Arena further??? It amazes me that they have dumped a lot of money into the football facilities, a sport that.....let's be honest here folks, we really have no shot of really ever doing anything major in. We are no BCS school and never will be, we are talking 3rd rate bowls and payouts....at best. In hockey however, that is not true. We can be a big dog in Hockey. WE HAVE BEEN THE BIG DOG IN HOCKEY!!!.... I just don't get it. I didn't get it when I was there and I still don't.....seems like we are always trying to be something we are not in basketball and football...something we will never be in D1. Can we please get some freaking hockey people back in the athletic department again.........urrghhh. Where have you gone Gregory, Vivian and Ruehl....

I feel myself sliding into one of these "how could they let the program sink to these levels" rants so I'll stop now.......but I am intersted if there is any ground swell for a newer facility.

This may be the most sensible, and best worded post I have ever read.

Without going into too much detail, I would give our new AD some time. He has stated that we are going to focus resources on the hockey program.

I believe his words.
