Guys got arrested under Meyer too...

I trhink Suisham and Sahm both got into some trouble under Urban...but whatever...I guess the point is that it's not acceptable behavoir.

I don't think you can prevent legal issues when you're dealing with 85 scholarship athletes plus a few walkons. Approximately 100 young males...many of whom were likely told they could do no wrong in HS for the past 4 years. No coach will ever be able to prevent these incidents on an occasional basis. If they become a recurring issue then you worry, but at this point that has not been the case.

All you can do is punish them and let it be known that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Exactly.

Regarding Meyer, he's had multiple issues involving violence and arrests with players at both Utah and Florida. The numbers dictate that the law of averages will eventually come into play.

h2ovillerocket, I respect the heck out of you and always enjoy your posts. It's just too bad the program you love has a regular string of incidents that have tarnished it, both on and off the field, and led to the renegade reputation it has locally and nationally.

Like hammb said, the response is critical, and Amstutz's laissez-faire attitude has just led to more and more instances. I know many Toledo people who are fed up with the situation and want order and discipline restored.

I don't condone what parks did...I know him...he's not a bad kid...he just made a bad decision...police made a much bigger deal than it was...someone else does the same thing...they let them go...he learned a lesson that athletes are held to a higher standard... now he has bigger consequences to face.[/list]

I'm gonna agree with paksun. I read the account in the Blade and it sounded just like an emotional reaction to seeing his girlfriend hugging her ex-boyfriend. Since it was around midnight and outside a bar, I would guess alcohol was also a factor. Seems like a situation that is not uncommon. And as long as the victim is ok, it is also a situation where no charges are filed. But there was this time, and Marcus has to face the consequences.

Yes, I was there, it was definately made into a bigger deal then it should have been...this kinda thing happens almost every week in BG, but Parks just has to face the consequences now because hes an athlete and made a stupid choice and was caught up in his emotions. Hes a good kid, you wont see anything like this from him again...

From just the little I know about his father I can assure you he won't make this decision again!
