A fix for the junkies.

Van Johnson is listed at backup QB.

Charles Sharon is listed.

big o line

Post by pardonfan »

Some things I noticed...

Our Oline averages 301 pounds. I really like the starting 5 on the O-line.

I feel our front 7 is pretty deep but our secondary is dangerously thin but pretty solid as long as we stay healthy.

I really don't see many weak spots on either side of the ball. So solid at rb, and wr, and oline it isnt even funny. Omar just needs to play.

This is a great team.

"Hopefully, tomorrow, BGSUFalcons.com will have pictures of the new scoreboard and a list of first-time walk-ons who are in camp."

That sounds great.

O line averages 301? That has to be our biggest line ever. And these guys can move! Scott M is now listed at 6'4" 319... How about Kory Lichtensteiger taking over the starting slot at left guard? Kory listed at 6'3" 300. Drew Nystrom listed at 6'5" 304...Patrick Watson at 6'5" 293...all 3 rs frosh. I see Jonathan Culp is listed as a backup to Rob Warren at right tackle. Culp has been in the program 3 years now and has never really gotten it together. There are plenty of young linemen who will keep him as a back up if Culp doesn't kick it into gear.

Todd DiBacco gets first crack as starting TE with Steve Navarro recovering from that stroke. The thing I admire most about DiBacco is he came to the program in 2000 as a fullback after setting the rushing record at Monaco, PA HS. He was RS in 2000 and never really got an opportunity to run the ball cuz Meyer came in and installed Brandon's offense. Todd has been a huge player on special teams these last few years. He just does what the staff tells him despite not getting a whole lot of playing time. Keep an eye on #42 during special teams play...he makes plays all the time. It's good to see Todd back again...a silent leader. Another guy to give a shout out to is Gavin Powell, LS. He took over for Joe Gutierrez last yr and did quite a job on the long snapping. Good to see him back as well.

Defensively we do seem a bit thin in the secondary but with a whole lotta muscle on the D line, that will help big time. BG registered 33 sacks last year. I expect 40-45 this year with all the guys back. This unit is gonna wreak havoc on opposing qb's.

LB's are solid....always have been at BG. I like the fact that Piepkow is up to 228 pounds. Since Mitch Hewitt is no longer playing, I think Piepkow is now my fave. He has that intensity that jacks me up. Burkes is up to 240. Sayles is smaller but creates problems for the opposition with his quickness and strength.

ONLY 24 DAYS.....Falcon football-the ultimate game.

How long has it been since we have had that kind of size all across the O Line? Not that size means top player, but that looks great. The recruiting pays dividends NOW.

I noticed Gardner missing from the DL depth. Did I miss something?

That is quite a list of receivers. The back-ups are deserving of getting on the field.

The DB's are going to be well tested over the next few weeks. There is some nice speed among those back-ups If I remember right, weren't Mayberry and Perry the fastest among their recruiting classes?

Cork,
I wondered the same thing about Gardner. He and Newble gave us solid back up play last yr. Anyone know anything?

Robert Browning appears to be gone as well. He was expected to be in the mix at one of the safety spots. That would have freed Keon up to play CB.
Kind of suprised to see Tim Arnold at CB. I didn't think he had the speed for the corner

Gardner is not listed on roster at all. Don't know what happened. Culp has never been able to live up to the hype he got.....played soft in high school and has done the same at BG.

Our Big O-line????????

Post by Falconboy »

Our O-line averaging 300 pounds is nothing, absolutely nothing. Not in D1. football anyway. I'll say that our O-line is big when we average about 320 on the line. I believe that was UT's average at O-line. Aside of Scotty we really don't have that many guys over 300lbs. Though it is nice to know the fab five boys are all close or at 300lbs. I'm surprised Parks hasn't gained much weight in off season. Didn't they have him listed at 248 when he was on the insiders? I was really disappointed at the D-line not getting much bigger. :|

It's a big deal for us.

Have we ever averaged 300 lbs on the line before?

I'm flipping through a 1996 roster. I see only three players that reached 300 (Al Barnett was tops at 305).

I'm guessing we had nobody that heavy on the team that beat Fresno State in the '91 Cal Bowl.

Does anyone know for sure?
