I wonder how many posts on AZZ.com have degraded into uniform/logo squabbles in the past few months? Not that I mind, I just think it's humorous.

And folks want a new or improved AA, a new or improved Ice Arena and furthre improvements to the Doyt. Imagine how many humorous posts we would have if the athletic department came into money and proposed full-scale athletic facility renovation/replacement.

I'm mulling over a future post that proposes some fullscale changes to the athletic department that may send these people over the edge  but I'm not sure if I'm mean enough to do it (I failed to submit the last time I typed it).
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Well, I guess it's only fair to have at least one post on the opposite side of "the brown jerseys look like crap and they're crappy and i hate them."

So here it is:

The brown jerseys are a nice, simple, streamlined look and I like them quite a bit. Our colors are orange and BROWN and the brown doesn't show up nearly as often as it should. I'm pretty happy with them.

Better stock up on the brown NOW. Never know what the future might hold.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh our colors are orange and BROWN? thanks for the reminder j/k, sorry for being a smartass. can't resist sometimes.... but yea, those brown jersey's look..."cheap" compared to the modern, bright, eyegrabbing orange unis, which, last time i checked, had brown on em. with the brown unis you usually get the white pants so orange becomes rare. they just look high school to me in brown.
hey everyone! i'm a moron!

I'll stick with "cheap."

didn't know that was the new bg uniforms.... oh wait...

i really feel like some of this is because alot of bg students are browns fans and want their college and pro teams to meld. u can't use a radical design as proof, since our orange jerseys aren't radical...but they look better then my high school team's unis...something i can't say of the brown ones. its like steve and berry's outfits us. now, i COULD find an example of a ratty, old jersey with numbers spray painted on it and say "ill stick with sleek and pro looking" and feel all clever...but nah.
hey everyone! i'm a moron!

I like the brown jerseys as they are now. It's a classic look.

I wouldn't be opposed to the team trying to work in a splash of orange -- in the shoulder stripe, maybe.

But, overall, the brown jerseys we have now offer a classy look that keeps with tradition. It seems to me that many of the fans who don't recognize this never saw Brian McClure or Erik White or Dave Preston play in brown. When they hear "Doyt Perry," they think of a stadium, and not a coach.

The orange jerseys, historically speaking, are abberant -- and when it comes to the last ones worn by the team, rather fugly in my humble opinion.

The numbers? Weird.

The striping? Weird.

Overall, those things looked like these guys slacks:

And for those of you who can't see it now, my guess is that you will see it a decade or two hence.

Fashions change. The jerseys the team has now are pretty timeless -- probably the closest thing in the league to what the Ohio Bobcats are wearing, and those are timeless, too.

But the single best reason for brown is not about fashion. It's about distinction.

Brown is our color. We practically own it.

Brown is so unusual that one corporation -- UPS -- has practically trademarked it when it comes to commerce.

When it comes to college football, Bowling Green can own that color.

Brown means that when Bowling Green walks onto the field, everyone watching on television all across the country can know instantly that this college football team is from Bowling Green and from nowhere else.

Can't do that with orange jerseys. It can't be done.

Gregg Brandon is doing the right thing with these jerseys. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are worlds better than anything the university could possibly come up with in orange.

And -- for Jeebus -- I'm a Detroit Lions fan.

I love that line of thinking. Top of my head, it's us and Wyoming. Brown can and should be ours. The 80's/90's brown unis are badass, though I don't know how that exact style would translate to today's "standards". And actually, I don't think it's so much people hating the color brown (well, one person aside) as they don't like the current brown unis. I think they took a shot on a whim, came up with a pretty solid design considering, and will undoubtedly work to rework it with the input they receive when the next uniform cycle comes around.

Now if they could just bring back the 80's style hockey sweaters... :D

Some thoughts:

-- In I-A, technically, Western Michigan still claims brown, but they obviously aren't embracing that color at all any more.
-- The 80s/90s jerseys were very close to the Cleveland Browns. The current jersey offers incremental seperatation. And I think the shoulder stripe is a major improvement.
-- I'd love to see the hockey team bring back those tootsie roll sweaters -- maybe with some incremental updates. The team hasn't been the same since they got rid of them.

Wonder what that little school from the Ivy League thinks about that. What's their name again?

- If Brown played at the Doyt you'd think that their colors are Silver & Red. Brown is bG's for the taking.
