It's Deion Melvin, who served as defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern last year and also coached at Missouri State and Western Illinois.
The ex-Georgia Southern head coach, Brian VanGorder, was the defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia and the linebackers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars before returning to the NFL this past off-season. After working under his tutelage, he should should be able to bring some great ideas to the table.

It really seems like we do a great job when it comes to hiring assistants. We had hired a guy who coached LBs at Miami, saw him leave, then got a guy who spent time at Georgia and also has head coaching experience. That reallys says something good about the reputation of our program.
Best of luck, Coach Melvin.

Here's the release...
Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon has announced that Deion Melvin has been named linebackers coach for the Falcons and will begin his duties immediately. Melvin comes to BGSU after spending the past season as the running backs coach at Georgia Southern University
"This is really great to get a coach of his quality and experience this close to the season," said BGSU head coach Gregg Brandon. "He has a good blend of youth and experience and has worked with some great head coaches."
While at GSU he coached a pair of running backs that recorded over 800 yards apiece and ran for a combined 15 touchdowns in his first season as the running backs coach. The Eagles finished 22nd in the country in rushing.
Prior to his time at GSU he spent seven seasons with Missouri State where he held the title of assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He also coached the linebackers in all seven of those seasons. He was also the recruiting coordinator starting in 1999.
"This is a great opportunity to have a chance to work with such an outstanding staff," said Melvin. "They are so young and passionate about the game of football. I feel very blessed for this opportunity to be a Falcon."
He began his coaching career at Western Illinois (1993-98 ) where he coached the linebacker position and was the recruiting coordinator and assistant strength coach.
In other news Stephen Bird, who will be coaching the outside receivers, will also be the special teams coordinator.
"I wanted to evaluate the new additions to our staff and pick the right person for this job," said coach Brandon. "Steven jumped out at me right away. He has such great passion for the sport and that aspect of the game that he was the perfect choice for our special teams."
Assistant head coach Troy Rothenbuhler, who manages the tight ends will also now coach the inside receiver position.
Lastly the Falcons added Brad Wilson as a graduate assistant. The Mansfield, Ohio, native will assist with the defensive side of the ball. He spent the past two seasons at Ashland University as a student assistant, helping with the secondary.

I couldn't agree more. Reading thru Phil Steele's preseason guide and seeing BGSU DEAD LAST in ST's? That simply must change. ST's have killed us recently as everyone here knows.
75 to go....it'll be here before ya know it.
