Reading the article, I don't think it's really like that at all. The subtitle is a little "duh", but the bulk of the article focuses on how they're the top of the mid-major heap and need to keep it that way. Something the MAC was unable to build on in 2003, unfortunately.

Wouldn't it be great if we could schedule teams from the best Mid-Major conference for home-and-home series........
AND THEN PLAY BOTH ENDS OF THE DEAL?
I look forward to the day when the new AD comes through, as promised, with these types of deals without getting WAC-ed by the MAC office. I'm counting on you Mr. Christopher.

I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
Utah of the Mountain West was the flavor of the month in 2004 with their undefeated, BCS-busting season and flashy offense. Boise simply repeated that same script in 2006 and the national media is all over them. The MAC was in vouge for a period of time as well.
The national media is wildly ignorant regarding college football and usually just runs with whatever looks good at the moment.
I'd put the Mountain West on top if we're basing it on facilities and coaching salaries.

It seems like the "top midmajor" shifts in and out all the time. At this point its pretty clear that the WAC and the MWC are the top two, but not that long ago, C-USA looked pretty dominant with Louisville and Memphis tearing it up in football and Louisville, Memphis, and Cincinnati being dominant in basketball. And remember, in 2003, at one time or another, BGSU, Miami, and NIU were all ranked in the top 25 - I don't remember about Marshall or Toledo - and at that point there was a lot of talk that maybe the MAC was going to push itself into being the best midmajor conference. Now the Sun Belt ... they're pretty much hopeless.

I agree. I would rate the MWC as the best overall non BCS but the WAC is closing the gap on them. I still have a hard time putting Conf USA ahead of the MAC in terms of talent and teams on the field. Conf USA is better with facilities...for now. The MAC is better than the Sun Belt and at least on par with Conf USA. There is no doubt the MAC needs to keep improving facilties and coaches salaries to be competitive. That means the schools, students, alumni and fans all need to step up the commitment.JoeFalcon wrote:Utah of the Mountain West was the flavor of the month in 2004 with their undefeated, BCS-busting season and flashy offense. Check the head to head competition between the MAC and Conf USA in the last 10 years.Ineedbotox wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:The MAC is better than the Sun Belt
Very very sad that we can only say we are better than the Sun Belt. I am not really sure we can say that about any other Div I conference, including CUSA. Seriously, it's depressing.
The MAC is good quality college football. It isn't the Big 10 or SEC...

no what would be great would be to do away with the whole fricking discriminatory BCS midmajor crap...and install a play off where by all D1 school conference champions...however that conference elects to produce a champion were tossed in a playoff hat.FalconTurf wrote:Wouldn't it be great if we could schedule teams from the best Mid-Major conference for home-and-home series........

or the fricking BCS was spun off in total so that we could have D1 and the BCS where by D1 would playoff like mac champ vs Wac, vs con usa, vs...etc and the BCS can go on electing whom ever they feel.
