HOW TRAGIC!

Post by Class of 61 »

As someone whose first wife died as a result of a brain tumor, I was very concerned when I first heard of Terry Hoeppner's condition...and when he'd "not been seen" for quite awhile, when Indiana announced Lynch as "interim" HC, I feared the worse...just saw this article pop up on the Blade website... My condolences and prayers go out to Terry's family... What a tragedy to lose someone at his age, when only a couple of years ago, things really looked bright for him career wise.

I am very sorry for the Hoeppner family & my prayers are with all of them. Coach Hoepnner was a winner on and off the field. He did things the right way and I will always remember (as I'm sure everyone here will) just how good that 2003 Miami University team was.

Just a another reminder that every day above ground is a blessed day.

It is very sad. He was turning that program around. He was their best coach since Mallory. RIP.

Hoeppner was a true class act, great person, and an excellent coach.

My thoughts go out to the friends and family as well as the MU faithful this day.

Nicholas and I had met Coach Hoep several times during his final two years at Miami. They were casual meetings while visiting the football department with my good friend, a former Miami player. Coach Hoep always had a smile on his face and encouraged our boys to ring the Victory Bell, which Nicholas still remembers.

I will never forget listening to his post-game speech in the Miami Locker room after the 2003 regular season game against BG. He spoke highly of BG; telling his players to respect BG and know that BG was a good team. He stated he told the BG coach to finish the job so that they could see each other again in the MAC Championship game. There was no trash talking allowed. It was clear that Coach Hoep wanted to win, but to win with pride and dignity. It's clear from this outsider that is how he lived his life.

Terry Hoeppner was a class guy who deserved a much longer life.

Speaking of that 03 game...IIRC, there was some type of malfunctin with the clocks that lead Brandon and the rest of the coaches to think there was less time left in the first half than there was. Miami got the ball back and had an opportunity to run a quick two minute drill, but they sat on the bal and ran the clock. That was a classy thing to do under the circumstances...

Yeah ..... Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Weeb Ewbank, Sid Gillman, Randy Walker.... all joking aside, you are thinking of Randy Walker who passed away last year from a heart attack. He left Miami after the 1999 season and went to Northwestern.

A very sad day. My thoughts and regards to the Miami and Indiana communities. All the more glad that he had a chance to walk the sidelines in that last season. No school in the country can lay claim to having set so many coaches onto the path of greatness, which our friends at Miami can, certainly the memory of those many coaches are entrusted to a school that has, can, and will do proper justice to them.

On the tacky side, what kind of wine and cheese do you serve at a wake?
