Thats a great piece and while I would rather he stay for all 4 years..the NHLs not going anywhere and so detest the kids leaving before they finish school, I understand that the sport is a profession as well.
So we only have him for two years, then we make getting another top goalie a priority and move on.
we have a great recruiting class and were going to rock this year.

I call it the typical level of confidence that I'd expect out of a good athlete. Yeah, he's sounds a little cocky, but I didn't see anything over the top in that article. Frankly, I think a little of that is probably a good thing.

Let your abilities do the talking, not your mouth (think Siggy). Some of his comments may have been due to the excitement of the draft, but to flat out say that you're only going to be here for two years is pretty ballsy and does nothing to endear him to his future team mates.

I have no doubt that he's as good as advertised but he hasn't proven anything yet. I've seen too many come in with that type of attitude only to fail at this level.

Highly rated recruit.....

Post by Falconboy »

This kid is considered by some publications to be the #15 goaltender in the nation out of HS and the #3 GT in the Draft. How is is that BG gets such a recruit but can't get 3,4 or 5 more of those guys and make an actually talented team that can run with UM, OSU , ND MSU and the like. Its weird , if BG football got a top 15 of anything we'd be talking about it 24/7 for 4 months till the season started. But in hockey this just an afterthought cuz it probably won't make much difference unless the rest of the class is also really good.

Just my take, carry on.

Ignorance really is bliss, isn't it?

We also have the top scorer in the USHL coming in (Cepis). He's not in the draft right now due to his size, but he's very reminiscent of Nelson Emerson. A small forward who played at BG and went on to be a Hobey Baker finalist and have a descent career in the NHL.

Add to that a highly rated defenseman and you have the makings of a good recruiting class.

The other thing you need to realize is that Unice is out of Toledo and Cepis is out of Cleveland, meaning a very easy commute for their parents to come and watch them play. Things like that weigh heavily on where some kids choose to go.

You also have to remember that BG is still a very well known hockey school that many would like to see turned around to where they were at their zenith. Many will come here (as Unice stated) just for the recognition of being a part of that return to glory. We'll see if he can live up to his promise.

Only the Toledo Blade would do an article on a goalie and include a picture of him allowing a goal. Way to show why you're #1 :smt098

As long as they don't turn it into a six-part investigation as to WHY he allowed that goal, and other goals before it, I'm cool. :D

Just a few notes:

1) If that's the attitude Unice is going to have coming in, it's going to be a rough two years for him. I firmly believe that Pooch has Spratt as his guy, so Unice will see a lot of relief/bench time.
2) It's always good to see a Falcon that high in the draft.
3) As a Blue Jackets fan, I was happy to see Howson have a very solid draft as the new GM. I'm cautiously optomistic. I think Voracek could be a great player for us.

Actually that pic is deceiving, it is a blocker save, and the puck is being deflected toward the corner.

I would rather have a very confident slash arrogant goalie...the position is a sports oddity to begin with...your all alone, most of your team leaves you alone, its an individual sport inter wound with a team sport and you relay have to be an odd person to want to be in front of piece of rubber that may come at your at 90+mph and want it to hit your body somewhere.
As for the rest of the team, I think your looking to hard at indvidual stats, and not at the whole. We have a great team...and if all we have is two years from someone who could well be the best goalie in BG history, then that is what we have to work with...lets get pumped about it and think about a CCHA title for cripes sake!

from what I just read, Chicago took him #86 overall, and he is reported by most to be the # 15 goalie over all.

Um, according to the caption:
Josh Unice wasn't able to stop this goal by Slovakia, but his goaltending helped Team USA to the silver medal in the U-18 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships.
