I keep envisioning when the Sebo is complete and the new turf fully installed. The Doyt has gone from one of the worst facilites in the MAC to one of the best....seemingly overnight.
Awesome. I will definitely be taking a day off from work in late July to drive over and see everything. At the Cleveland tour stop, Coach said anyone that wants a tour, he'll be more than happy to do that. I'll drop him an email next month. I wanna see the inside of the Sebo.

BTW, found this cool-looking (yet information-starved) graphic if Field Turf...

Out of curiousity, what do each of the numbers represent? Think I can figure out most...based on Freak's and my talk with Christopher at the Cleveland event last week, the field has to be done by Aug.1 or there abouts, or the company has to pay US a fee. Two contactors actually doing the job...one to do all the new drainage and prep, then Turf folks come in for actual installation. Based on amount of gravel placed so far, I'd think we're somewhere at least through the 2nd step of prepping.

I've been to more games at Doyt Perry Stadium, then any other facility in the MAC... even my beloved Yager Stadium... but I don't think the Sebo and the Field Turf make enough of a difference to get BG into the top half of stadiums in the MAC.
Scoreboards... I know BG just got a new one... but I'd take UT's, OU's, Miami's, Northern, and NIU's all before I'd consider BG's.
Site Lines... with one of the Gentlest slopes in all of College football... watching games can be difficult unless you are willing to stand.
Concessions... I'll allow your own bretheren to go through the nightmare that is food.
Getting to your seats is never an easy task when there's 18K or more fans at a game... the corridors are narrow and often crammed with people making it interesting to get food or go up the ramp or get to the bathrooms.
The press box is overly crammed and to low to the fans that sit infront of the box. The press box on both sides will never be more than pigs dressed up with lipstick, until they are torn down and redone, modernizing the facility.
All in all, I would say all the additions are great for BG. All of the improvements were needed, but if you look around the league and see what everyone else has done, how their stadiums are laid out, and the improvements they've done, BG still doesn't crack the top half of the league when it comes to a football facility.

Field Turf was subtraction by addition.redskins4ever wrote:I don't think the Sebo and the Field Turf make enough of a difference to get BG into the top half of stadiums in the MAC.
The gentle slope on the Z-axis means many of the seats are rather low to the ground for my taste. But, on the upside, the curves on the X-axis (along the sidelines) are fan friendly. Also, the seating is quite close to the field, another plus.Site Lines... with one of the Gentlest slopes in all of College football... watching games can be difficult unless you are willing to stand.
I agree with you on the scoreboard and on concessions.
More can definitely be done with the stadium. But it isn't the white elephant some seem to want to make it. It can be the best in the MAC -- and those who proclaim their own facility the best in the MAC are often just exageratting. The prime example, for me, is Ohio University's place. I don't think it's that special at all.
As usual I did my running out at the Doyt today. Alot of work has been done on drainage systems so far. Alot more has yet to be done also; it looked like a system of "gutters" (for lack of a better term) have yet to be placed on top of the gravel that is down right now. I saw them all packaged up as though they had just been deliveredright outside the field. Some sort of plastic composite material, so deterioration will be something we shouldn't have to wory about.
I didn't realize this until just today, but the end of the band stand are filled with what looked like dirt, top soil, and potting soil. I did not realize landscaping was to be done right there on the concrete. Those stands become more and more of a place I'm going to love sitting every day.

According to what the Freak and I were told at the Cleveland "tour stop", the turf HAS to be in by August 1, or the company(s?) start paying BG...last I checked, today is June 27, so you're right; it's got to be close to TURF TIME!

To each his own, I guess. I agree the concessions need to be moved from underneath the stands because it does cause traffic jams, per say.redskins4ever wrote:I've been to more games at Doyt Perry Stadium, then any other facility in the MAC... even my beloved Yager Stadium... but I don't think the Sebo and the Field Turf make enough of a difference to get BG into the top half of stadiums in the MAC.

The only stadium I haven't been to in the MAC is NIU so I can't comment on that one. I'd take the Doyt over Dix, the Glass Bowl, the Rubber Bowl, Buffalo's, Ohio U's (although for some strange reason I kinda like Peden), Ball State's and EMU's. That means I feel Miami's, WMU's and CMU's are probably better right now. That puts the Doyt in the top half, IMO.
We simply have a difference of opinion.

The appeal to OU's Peden Stadium is that it is situated in arguably the most beautiful place in the state of Ohio.
And with the new renovations done to Ball State it should end up being pretty nice. I certainly enjoyed the ticket prices over there. Although to walk around the old closed end of that stadium was pretty stupid. You had to walk up the stands, then over to the other side and then back down.

BG aside, Yager Stadium is probably my favorite in the conference. I've never seen the Michigans or Northern Illinois.
