Lodging for Michigan State....

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Looks like the Freak clan will be heading up Friday, Sept 7. I've been doing some online searches for motels/hotels in the East Lansing area and I have to say a lot of places are already booked!! I did find a Red Roof Inn about 4 miles from MSU and I think I'll book a room there tonight online.

Anyone else heading up....where might you be staying? It would be cool to find a place where BG fans can take over the place.

Freak, we are staying at the Marriott, within walking distance of the stadium!

I still have the option open of possibly heading up for this one, depending on the job situation at the time... it's so kind of you guys to let me sleep on the floor of your hotel! :-D

One of the advantages of living at Casa del Flipper is it's proximity ( a mere two hours or so) to the Michigan State Campus. Now...if I can only weasel out of helping Pam that day...some dumb girl at her church is getting married and she wants Pam to play the harp at her wedding.
The wife may need to find a new roadie.

2 things...completely separate ideas but they both relate to a part of the subject
1) speaking of michigan state...It appears that Michigan State has a countdown clock...for their game with michigan, nothing for the first game of the season...I know Michigan is their rival, but I still kinda think this is a slap in the face to us...should I pass this on to a few players? Image

and 2) speaking of lodging...go ahead and get your hotel for blacksburg for the weekend of August 30th 2008. it is a very, very small town (subtract the students and it is smaller than BG I believe) and they get about 5-6 times the crowd BG has and very few hotels and they go up very fast...you will probably have to stay atleast 25 miles north in Roanoke which will be a pain to get to if you plan on going back after the game. I'm in a conundrum here, as UVA is hosting (the likely defending national champs) USC on that day as well. My only hope is that BG/vt is a noon game while the UVA/USC is a 7:30/8 game, and I'd still be pushing that because traffic after vt games is the worst I've been in (worse than ohio state, the super bowl, FSU football games...all of which had larger crowds by at least 10K, but the traffic was not comparable.) However I always have to take 81 north as does most of the tech fans but if you are going back towards BG right after the game it probably won't be as bad, but getting to the interstate is hell.

I take it you're talking BIG harp and not the Mississippi saxophone type? Cause if your wife is blowing harp at the wedding I want to come-sounds like a good time. If she's PLAYING harp-BOOOOORING. Well, usually, although I'm a big fan of Loreena McKennit.

To which the players will respond, "so what". Seriously, this is really reaching here to find anything that could be interpreted as being disrespected. I'd say nobody would give a crap if our first game was against Utah State and they only had a countdown clock for Utah(or whoever their rival is), but because it's Michigan State and they're a Big Ten team, the inferiority complex surfaces once again and people somehow think we're being disrepected all because of something as insignificant as a countdown clock.

Do we need a countdown clock for the Toledo game? :-D
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The coaching staff better have one in the locker room somewhere. One thing I'd like to see improve with the staff is much more emphasis put on beating the school up north. That must be a VERY HIGH priority! :supz: Just waiting for someone to say "That's not the only thing the staff needs to improve!" in 3...2...1....

O & B,
Good to hear you're gonna be there! Does anyone know of a MSU site where we can find out a tailgate spot for the game? I would imagine it will be an afternoon game so I don't know if we'll be lugging the grill up...

Flip,
How close are you to Ypsilanti? I am taking that Friday off (Nov. 9) and will be brining the Freaklings up for the EMU game...don't know if Mrs Freak will make the trip. I know she is a definite no go for Buffalo on 11/17. Probably gonna be too cold for her. LOL

TG,
For a BiG enough beer donation, the Freaklings can sleep in the lobby.

BTW, I guess this Red Roof Inn is less than 2 miles from the stadium. the address is 3615 Dunckel Rd and the phone # is 517-332-2575. Ask for Becky as she was very pleasant and helpful. I was able to get a room for all the Freaks for about $80, not including taxes. Not too bad...

I'm really looking forward to this game...the Minny game is on the same day as my BIL's reception. I have to take a radio with me cuz the reception goes from 6-11. :x Thank goodness Dana's dad and stepmom chose 9/1 instead of 9/8. They would not be very happy to see me in East Lansing and not at the reception. LOL

Freak...I'm like...25 minutes from Ypsi...my house is "crashable"...

H20...it is a full size harp. I tried getting her to try some Muddy Waters on it any way, but my singing "Mean Mannish Boy" over her playing just ..didn't.. sound..right.

I think it was my fault.

Corky Seigle made (makes?) a living doing something like that-used a string quartet to back his harp I think. Anyway there is no possible way on Earth to look more feminine than to play the big harp, IMO. Not sure why that is, but it is.

Well, the boyo's in the valleys wouldn't argue with you there, H20ville. In the land of the harp, look see, if the boyo's aren't toilin' in their coal mines, or ruckin' on the rugby pitch, or talkin' it up 'down the local with their darts an' their pints of bitter, then they're singin' their hearts out in massed choirs to the tune of Men of Harlech, so they are.

Now, its all very well and good chasin' sheep up and down the mountains where men are men and sheep run scared, but if one of the lads was caught playin' with 'is harp, look see, he'd be laughed right out of town and over the border to England, now there's a thing!
