I am sure Dan Dakich is a stand up guy. And I know he was a great coach at BG in his first term (pre WVU). But the fact is he is no longer the Head Coach of the BGSU Men's Basketball team and I really don't give a damn what he thinks of our team, facilities, or University. The only people whos opinion I care about are CURRENT coaches and athletic department staff at BGSU. Why is he still even talking on the Ticket? Doesn't he have a job in Bloomington, Indiana? I would think Coach Orr should be the one talking about BGSU Men's Basketball.

I for one care about his opinion of the University and program. It's alot easier to point out the shortcomings of a facility after you are no longer being paid by that University. Whether I agree or not, I'll take his word on the floor issue over most. As for why he is on the show. He is the only thing worth listening to on Wamer's show. He is straight shooter and has me laughing each week. Kudos to him for doing so.
He & Norm have built a friendship over the years, and Dan loves to do the radio show. I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to do it for awhile, at least occasionally. The subject of BG Basketball is not (and never really was) the sole reason for Dan to go on the air...he just goes on and talks all sports. FWIW, Urban Meyer is still on the show occasionally as well, and the subject of discussion does not focus solely on BG, Utah, or Florida football.
I would bet anything that Norm will be extending an invitation (if he has not yet already) to coach Orr. Amstutz & Joplin have been reluctant to accept that invitation; Dakich, Meyer, and Brandon have all been regular guests on the show. I hope Orr continues the trend of BG coaches speaking on there regularly, it's nice to be able to hear them speak.

Yeah, maybe so, but the ladies baskestball team also don't go 6'7,6'9 and weigh 250+lbs either. So maybe the slender ladies wouldn't really ever notice it that much. As it has seemed over the years , the majority of our injuries to key players have all been big men. Anthony Stacey went at least 240lbs, Lefeld at 270 some others probably but can't remember all of them. You can't deny that we seem to have rather bad luck with mens b-ball injuries. If it is just only and truly bad luck than the law of averages should be giving us a break here right about now.hammb wrote:Curt Miller was on 1470 earlier in the year and scoffed at the notion that the floor was "too hard". It's funny how those attitudes differ when you're winning, eh?
I like Dan, I respect him, I think he'll be a good coach again someday. I don't for a minute think the floor is the reason we've struggled over the years.
What ever the injury problems really come from you can't also deny that a rock hard slap of concrete is not the best anchor surface for a basketball floor. I don't know what most colleges are using for there's but I'm pretty sure its not concrete. I'll certainly be doing some homework on this to be sure.

The one factor you must look at here in comparing the women to men is not the SIZE but, the fact that women have a greater number of knee injuries than the men on average. With this said the women and their coach at BG are not complaining about the floor although they have experienced their share of knee injuries just like other D-I programs.falconboy wrote:Yeah, maybe so, but the ladies baskestball team also don't go 6'7,6'9 and weigh 250+lbs either. Women have more knee injuries because their joints are constructed diffently. Men's knee's are formed with round edges, women's are more like a notch and a tab. That roundness gives men the "play" to absorb stress more effectively. The women's more squared off knees are more rigid and less able to absorb stress before failing.
There are structura differences from person to person, differences in strides and running styles (predominately flat footed vs balls of their feet.).
So...I would suspect if there was a problem with the floor, you would see more stress fractures to feet, more cartilage damage to knees and strained achilles tendons in ankles as those points would seem to be the areas stressed the most by reptitive movement accross a hard surface.
At least that's how it would seem to me...I have bad knees and tiny little "girl" ankles so I know this s**t...

Oh, yes! Obviously! The hard floor would affect the FOOT, not the knee! Silly us. Thanks Dr. Flipper, you anatomical super-genious you! All of my questions and doubts about the floor affecting our basketball are now at rest.

Hey...I got an A in all of my Anatomy and Phis classes so don't clown me....
I didn't say you'd just have foot injuries...if there was aproblem with the floor you'd see a variety of stress related injuries to all the joints that could concievably be stressed by the impact of running...probably in greater numbers than the rest of the conference.
Suck on that, bozo

I never mentioned all the ladies knee injuries but injurires to guys like Stacey(ankles) and Lefled feet. I remember Stacey having ankle problems constantly. If Curt Miller does actually think the floor is fine then thats his honest opinion I guess, as I believe DD's opinion is his honest one.BleedOrange wrote:Flipper wrote:Women have more knee injuries because their joints are constructed diffently.
