1st Contact Camp

Post by Puckhead »

For those of you who are in hockey withdrawal, Ron Fogarty's 1st Contact Camp starts this evening. 1990's 6/27 - 6/30, 1991's 6/30 - 7/2.

I talked to Ron, there is some major talent coming in.

Come on out quickly, the camp will be moved to another/better location next year. I will not make comments about the number of years that the administration has been studying the renovations / replacement of the ice arena.

The schedual does not show them having any ice time untill tomorrow 8am.

The other day I was tactful. Who in the Administration / marketing of this University have their heads up their anal sphincter.

Ron owns the 1st Contact Camp LLC. There are 450 or skaters that come from all over the US, Canada and also International. That is 450 potental
goodwill ambassadors for BG and BGSU. There are also about 200 parents that are in town. That is 200 people eating and Drinking and shopping in BG. You do the math in $$, you do the math in PR. You do the math on potential BGSU recruits.

2 years ago I said that we needed more locker room space for this camp.
I'm sure that I was not the only forward thinking person.

Well BGSU you have blown an opportunity. MSU, Cornell, UAH, Miami etc are falling all over Ron to try to get the camps to their campuses.

When did they do that last survey - 2005? Talk about analysis paralysis.
If "they" decide to renovate or build new, when will this project start 2009??
When will this project be completed? Senior year for Cepis ? At this rate will there be anything left of BGSU Hockey? Yes I have a bad attitude.
You tell me where I am wrong.

Ron's camp will probably be at Adrian next year, just because it will be easier for him, not because our ice arena needs updated.

Btw, First Contact Hockey Camp games start at 2:30 today. Last game is at 8 tonight. Four games back to back, every two hours and ten minutes or so, depending on the length of the games. They will move up game times if any games are taking less time. Tomorrow morning the last set of games for the 1990's start at 8.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

That's pretty darn depressing. Obviously a camp like this isn't everything, but it certainly another thing. Kind of makes you wonder what could have been. Potential recruits missed out on.

Did you read the last post? The only reason it was here this year anyways is because Ron had already reserved the arena for it before he took the job in Adrian. Next year it will be in Adrian because it will be much more convenient for him. This camp was his idea, and he owns it. It would stand to reason that he would have it where it is most convenient for him. In other words, IT WOULDN'T BE HERE EVEN IF WE HAD A NEW ARENA. Just like it won't be at MSU, or Michigan, or anywhere else but Adrian.

Regardless of what some may try to imply, facilities have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

Totally wrong. I am a new to this site. MSU, Miami, UAH, Colgate, St. Lawrence and Quinnipiac have made a push for the camp. The camp will go to a new site that will benefit the camp and that campus.

Welcome to the site.

Interesting that the camp location is still not going to any of the schools you listed. It's going to Adrian. They may have made a "push" but it obviously has failed. So, in that respect, both views are correct, yes?

I don't want to speak "out of school" or anything, but I think you all might want to speak to Ron as to where he is considering taking the camp next year. You wouldn't believe what some of the "big" schools are offering him to have the camp there. He'd be a fool not to accept. Besides the fact that a "big" school would give the camp name recognition. I'm sure he would give you a list of the schools he is considering, just as he did us. Oh...and the word facilites was DEFINITELY mentioned!

Puckhead isn't wrong on this one...at least as of 10PM Friday night.

BTW...this camp is SO much fun to watch. It's fun to see if you can pick out the "talent" that the various coaches are also looking at. I just wish that the kids who said they REALLY want to come to BG were getting a fair look. That's all I'll say at this point.

GO FALCONS!

You are correct. I talked with Ron about this today and he is planning on taking his show on the road. One likely place for one of them next year is at MSU. The interest is VERY high from other high profile schools, as they see the potential in hosting it. This camp is an incredible opportunity for these kids to show their stuff to a large number of NCAA coaches at one time. No where else will they get this kind of opportunity. Colgate is practically rolling out the red carpet for him and the camp that will start on July 5th for the '88 and '89 players. Great chance for him to see how it works at another school.

Btw, the '91 players have games at 2, 4 and 6 tomorrow. Here's the website for the camp if you want to learn more about it. http://www.firstcontacthockeycamp.com/
