Martin Bayless' Son- OSU and Fla. offers

Post by Class of 61 »

Man, I'm starting to feel REALLY old! Scout has quite an article on Martin Bayless' son (San Diego area) who's already been offered by OSU and Fla. of all schools. This kid has TWO parents and an Uncle who were BGSU grads...I'd sure like to see us go after him...tough competition considering the 2 schools already involved...but why not give it a flyer and see what happens?

Wow, no kidding, Den.

Martin was one of the best. And his brother was no slouch as a tight end, either! With those family ties, could it hurt to reach out to him?

are you guys serious??? an offer from BG would not even be considered with schools like osu and florida already in on him. you think he would waste a visit to come to bg? try being a little more realistic guys.

The list of guys being considered at Big Ten (sic) schools, like the young Bayless, and ended up at M.A.C. schools is fairly large.

See Rothelisberger et al.

Sometimes guys like to play right away instead of red and or grey shirting.

Schools like osu? Reality says he goes to Florida so he doesn't have to play knowing people like you are supporting him. You're not the best at everything.

41-14 proved that. Bye bye now.

(and yes, you beat us, but that has no relevance to anything I just said so pointless comebacks like that aren't needed)

It's worth a try.

I've never got the feeling that the old man waxes nostalgic about dear old Bee Gee on a dialy basis -- but if he did, it would certainly be realistic to try.

Quite honestly, the fact that he has family ties to BGSU gives us a huge upper hand to extend an offer to this boy. He's heard of the school, his family knows it, and therefore he's familiar with it. He might be an excellent prospect for OSU or Florida, but so are the other 3 or 4 dozen recruits they are looking at. Schools like that don't look below 3 star athletes, and usually they don't look that low.

No doubt he's worth going after. If he is interested in playing for a smaller school to get immediate and more playing time than at UF or TOSU, we've got about every other midmajor beat because of his family ties. And if he's coming to C-Bus to check out the campus, we could certainly get him to see BG while he's in the state.

reality says he goes somewhere other than the mac and even more specifically bg. he is just too highly regarded to put himself in that position. osu may not be the best at everything, but this is football, and yes we are one of the best in the nation so just drop it b/c there is no sense in arguing that. "41-14, bye bye now." yeah you really shut me up... while the buckeyes were playing in front of a national audience earning millions for themselves and the big 10, BG was working on a losing basketball season. BYE BYE NOW! OSU>BG

I hate to break this to you buckeye, but it doesn't really matter what school you come from when it comes to NFL success. If you're a good football player, you'll get discovered.

Heck yes we should offer him....Bayless is a BG name just like Redd. I don't care who else is interested. Offer and see what the young man is looking for in a school. And who says he's guaranteed to play in the NFL?

The college football world does not revolve around OSU, as much as they would like to think.

   and tek really wonders why whenever he posts something about osu people talk bad about them

I also love when these "big bad" osu fans talk smack about a MAC school. Your team is in one of th best confernces in America, and yet your talking smack about MAC schools. Isn't there a Michigan fan walking down the street that you need to throw something at.

As we discussed in that 4 star WR thread, the chances of landing an elite **** level talent are very slim at BG.

It is certainly possible to make it to the NFL from any NCAA D1A school, but if you choose BG over the likes of OSU you are definitely fighting an uphill battle. Sure there's no guarantee that he's ever going to make it to the NFL (I don't even have a clue how good this kid is), but most athletes thinking NFL out of HS aren't heading to the MAC. We are way behind the big boys in facilities & reputation with NFL scouts. Certainly we're good for a 1st rounder once a year or every other year or so, but every time that player is graded you can bet that quality of competition will be among his biggest knocks.

The fact is that for any elite athlete that has pro aspirations OSU is a better choice. They've got better facilities, better strength programs, more exposure, and a better reputation among scouts. That's not to say that we cannot produce NFL players, it's just saying that we're not the best road to travel down to get to that destination. We get our NFL level talent by taking the athletes that were passed over, or injured in HS, or BCS teams wanted them to change positions, etc. Usually they're going to be guys with a chip on their shoulder, or late bloomers, etc. I'd love to have this kid come to BG, but it would certainly surprise me. The MAC is just not the destination for many elite HS athletes.

This is what it comes down to. Not "we're better than OSU" or whatever else the Columbus inferiority complex claims, just that with his family history, he's worth a shot. I'd rather throw the BG name into his hat and get laughed at than think he's untouchable and watch him light it up for Miami(OH) or UT or the like when he decides (or the big boys decide for him) that four years of PT is more important than playing two at a national power.

Good post, Mark.
