Greetings BGSU Fans

Post by Mad_Bomber »

I've been watching your team for the past few years, even back when Urban Meyer was coach and I especially enjoy watching the spread style of play BGSU uses. I'm also a fan of Memphis and the Tigers became bowl eligible the other night and it looks as if the GMAC Bowl may invite us to play a team from the MAC. So far it looks as if you guys could be a possible opponent along with a few other teams from the MAC. My question is would the BGSU fans be interested in a possible matchup against Memphis in the Motor City Bowl? Personally I'd love to see as the Tigers play a similar style of football to BG. Would the fans travel to Mobile? There's a thread on the Memphis forum that ponders the question.

Well, I know I certainly would, and depending on when it was I think quite a few other BG fans probably would as well.

To be honest with you, though, I don't think the opponent would be much of a motivating factor if it was Memphis. Nothing against Memphis, of course, but we arguably have the best offense in non-BCS conferences outside of Utah (and even that is debatable IMO). I think that we would much rather play a big name BCS opponent and I think that would bring out a lot more fans.

But, like I said, its nothing against Memphis or you. I'm just trying to be honest with ya! :)

Mad_Bomber...

Most people on this site are die-hard BG fans so 99.9% of us would attend the game. Would the rest of the BG community? Maybe 10 thousand max IMO. Hopefully it would be different but I doubt it...

This is true. Attendance would be much lower in Mobile than in Detroit or even Charlotte for the Tire bowl. The timing is not idea either, since its right before christmas, right after school is out.

I hope we get high numbers wherever we go, but I know Mobile isn't a big draw for "most" BG fans...us excluded on this site.

Bomber,
I believe the MCB is now committed to to a tie in with the MAC and the Big 10.... hence, it's unlikely that Memphis would be named to this bowl...OTOH, with all the potential non-eligible teams, anything could happen...I darn well know I'm going where the Falcons go, assuming we get there, of course. I still don't trust that the bowls will take more than their "minimum" of 2 MAC teams, unless they absolutely have to... Don't want to get shut out like NIU did last year, and Miami a few yrs. ago at 10-1, with wins over a couple of teams who WERE named to bowl games with 6-5 type records... So the "rumor" of 4 MAC teams going this year, is strictly a rumor until I see it in black and white....

Last years GMAC was also the same week as finals so I was glad to see us not there. I think it's the same situation this year actually. I don't know how many students would actually travel for that but to miss finals because of it I don't see happening.

hey now Memphis has a good team this year and can put up points just like we can. I think the game would be a shootout in the 40's and of course I think we would win but I could see them beating us too, they seriously have a good football team.

I don't think it is, actually. I don't know the BG schedule, but the GMAC bowl is Dec. 22, which if that was finals week would put graduation on Christmas day. I don't think the University would do that. (Unless FSN is televising it... )

Actually it was during finals. Last year the GMAC was on like the 16th or something. They changed it, i believe, because they realized this poor date selection.

I'd be fine with this game, though I do admit, I'd like to meet up with someone from a BCS conference instead. My girlfriend is from the Memphis area, so I know she and her parents would LOVE to see this matchup, but as has been said, I don't know how much excitement this would generate in the public. Jeff

ditto. I want a BCS team. I hate winning games that 90% of the country writes off as a cakewalk. I want to play a big 11 team and ruin their $h!t.

I'd love for the Falcons to be here in Charlotte!! Thats the first I've heard of that. If thats the way things play out, then you can better believe I'd be there with about 10 or so of my closest friends. And anyone who needs to crash at my place you'd all be welcomed.
