I remember Dennis well. You are right, he didn't back down from anyone. Remember Bubba Berenzweig (sic). Must of had a foot and 80 pounds on Dennis and Dennis went right at him. No questioning that guy's heart.pdt1081 wrote:I seem to remember a shorter guy that played a few years ago....didn't score a lot of goals, but didn't back down from anybody either.....oh yeah, Dennis Williams!

"Willy" which is what we called him did not have a lot of heart. he was actually a very bad teamatte. Nobody really cared for him. His nickname was also "Willy teh Rat" because he would rat his teamattes put to the coaches to make himself look good. He did the same thing when he was a coach under Pooch. Always looking to rat guys out to make himself look better. Just about everyone hated him.

Personal account or personal grudge?bgsufalcon24 wrote:No, you need to give it a break. He's just giving a personal account of a player we happen to be talking about. What's wrong with that? If personally the guy was a jerk, what's the big deal?

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

To me, a good teamate isn't a person who willingly breaks the rules and expects to get away with it. When you say "bad teamate," you should probably be looking in the mirror.freddiethefalconBG wrote:"Willy" which is what we called him did not have a lot of heart. he was actually a very bad teamatte. Dennis Williams is one heck of a person: on the ice, behind the bench, and outside of hockey. Nobody can play the way he did without having a heart the size of a horse. His game was pure heart and soul (with a some talent mixed in
The way you are talking, I'm willing to guess you played for Buddy Powers. I now understand your complete dislike of Scott Paluch. I was there when Buddy was coaching all of Jerry York's recruits. The attitude within the locker room changed drastically as more and more of Buddy's recruits came in. I witnessed the changes over the years. You never saw the locker room in Buddy's first two years. If you had, you would have a completely different attitude towards the hockey team.

Look, the dressing room politics aside, what I know about the guy is what I saw on the ice.freddiethefalconBG wrote:"Willy" which is what we called him did not have a lot of heart. he was actually a very bad teamatte. I don't know enough to question what you are saying, but I guess I wonder what it was you (or your teammates) might have done that caused Dennis to have something to say in the first place. Maybe if the team had the discipline back then to do the right things in the first place, it would have had a few more wins and a few less losses.

Get your facts straight. Every team picks up players that are considered recruited walk-ons. Basically we're telling them to try out....if they make it and develop into a high level player there is always the chance that they can earn a partial scholarship down the line. As it is, these players won't receive a scholarship to start out.

Every time I hear/read one of these quotes it makes me second guess where the blame really lies. Make that three players from the Sioux Falls Stampede that have committed to BG.
07/03/07 - The Sioux Falls Stampede also announced today that forward Dan Sexton has committed to Bowling Green State University for the upcoming 2007-08 season. While at Bowling Green, Sexton will join former Stampede teammates David Solway and Pat Tiesling and assistant coach Doug Schueller. Bowling Green State University is located in Bowling Green, OH and are members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
Sexton turned down a scholarship offer from Bentley College in late May and attended the Stampede's tryout camp in Minneapolis, MN. The Apple Valley, MN native posted 24 points (14g, 10a) in 58 games during the regular season for the Stampede and led the USHL in post-season goals with eight.
The Stampede had 20 players from last year's Clark Cup Championship team secure Division I scholarships. The Stampede have had nearly 90 players secure scholarships in their first eight years of existence and have had 21 players drafted by an NHL club.

Wow there are a lot of tough people in this chat room, yikes.
I would just like to say BGFan another solid set of responses that shows to everyone that you are clearly out of your mind and know nothing as to what is going on. well done.
Lets be serious, the forward we just recruited could have been nothing more than a third or fourth liner on his junior team, was there really no one else out there that had more than 4 goals. I think I could have found a couple. solid recruiting by a solid coach.

That someone that dug up this thread was myself. I don't read much of the finger-pointing drivel in these hockey threads, but did notice the original intent and tone of this thread was to acknowledge the Sioux Fall Stampede players coming to BG this next season. So in the original spirit of the thread, I thought I'd make a pertinent and informative update that yet another Sioux Falls player (3) signed with BG. I didn't feel like starting a new thread. My bad I guess, but it's not my problem that certain people can't read dates.BGFan wrote:Did you see the dates on those posts?
This is an old thread that someone decided to dig up again. Not sure why. Trust me...my POV has changed dramatically in the last few months.
