exactly, every big ten game was already on tv. more of them than I cared to watch. I only want the bucks, and maybe the Michigan games if it is a big game for them because I have interest in those. Michigan is OSU's only real challenge lately. Indiana, iowa, msu, PSU who cares. they have been irrelevant.hammb wrote:And most of them are boring games too. ESPN, ESPN 2 and ABC was full of lame boring Big ten games.
The Big 10, as a conference, has really not been too great the past couple seasons. OSU & UM have been top tier teams, but the rest of the conference has been down. PSU had a great year a couple season ago, but that was a fluke. Iowa has been down the past couple years as well. MSU has been bad for a few seasons now.
As a general rule I'd rather watch SEC football. I'm with you tek, I don't see what the point of a Big 10 network is. Over the past few seasons there are never more than 1, MAYBE 2, decent Big 10 games a week, and if you wanted to watch both they've always been available anyhow. I see no reason to put a station out showing a bunch of MSU-NW games...blech.
Of course if it gets BG some additional televised games, I will not complain.
Falcons vs Gophers - BTN
I agree with all you guys that almost all big ten games were on anyway, but I thought the real reason for BTN was to get more exposure for sports such as baseball, hockey, wrestling, soccer etc that are only on regional fox sports or local channels. This way even though Big Ten hockey teams that are split into two conferences can consolidate televsion coverage.
Another thing I was wondering is how will this effect basketball coverage, will big ten games still air on ESPN or will the big ten doctor its schedule to air double and triple headers of bouncy ball games on saturdays and sundays?

I don't believe that for a minute. The reason for the Big 10 network, IMO, is to cut out the middle man of the networks. ESPN/ABC was paying the Big 10 a lot of money to air those football games. Obviously they were selling enough advertising to make money on that deal. The Big10 realized this and decided, why not cut out the middle man? Now they can sell the advertising and not worry about ESPN/ABC getting their cut.dannyk wrote:I agree with all you guys that almost all big ten games were on anyway, but I thought the real reason for BTN was to get more exposure for sports such as baseball, hockey, wrestling, soccer etc that are only on regional fox sports or local channels. Sure, they'll probably show those other games as well, but Hoops & Football are where the money is, and I'm sure that's their plan. I fully expect to see most big Big10 hoops games on the network as well.

They are starting to fall behind in recruiting lately, it is about to catch up to them..havent they had a lot of off field issues lately as well? It is all going to catch em..they still can not win big ten championships.
That may be the intent but they will not draw very good ratings for the other sports. People will watch it for football and bball because they now have to...other than that, the channel is worthless.dannyk wrote:I agree with all you guys that almost all big ten games were on anyway, but I thought the real reason for BTN was to get more exposure for sports such as baseball, hockey, wrestling, soccer etc that are only on regional fox sports or local channels. hopefully it will fail and we can go back to the way it was.

Let's hope so, less big ten on ESPN means more ACC, SEC, hopefully they get an agreement with the PAC 10, and at least we can watch some fun football. Basketball too, it was sooo boring watching 60-58 big ten basketball game (I hate osu as much as anyone but at least they were fun to watch.)

Brian, exactly. This is all about $$, not wrestling. Soon, every major conference will be doing this. And when they can, they will put their major games on, too.hammb wrote:I don't believe that for a minute. The reason for the Big 10 network, IMO, is to cut out the middle man of the networks. See the Cleveland Indians.
