Attendance

As this seems to be a hot topic what should our expectations be for attendance. Obviously big teams will always draw pretty well but when we have a Thurs. night game against Ferris St. should we really expect more than 1,500?

It semed last year that we would lose alot of Friday night games big which would lead to even smaller crowds on Sat.

Depends, what is our record? While most of us here are going to make it to every game we can, the bulk of the attendance corresponds with our record/how exciting we are to watch.

I think in a very real way, hockey (and sports in general) tends to either capture the imagination of the incoming freshman class or miss it. The last time the team was truly competitive actually was my freshman year (well ... maybe sophomore year). A sizeable number of us made home games a ritual until the day we graduated. I don't think that's been happening lately.

Certainly winning or at least the decent prospect of winning accounts for a lot of it, but remember that fans tend to feed of other fans. Perhaps a little more visibility across campus this fall would help matters.

That is a good point. My freshman year, the hockey program was still making the NCAA's and the excitement was there. I looked forward to going to those games Also at the time the football team was weak (Moe was the coach). I had a hard time finding people that would stay at the football games past half time. That may have helped success starved students to attend the hockey games. Off the topic, but speaking of Moe, does any one remember that short lived, very ill conceived "Poe Ditch Rat" offensive formation?

I remember it being used for a non-conference road game at Penn St. or West Virgina. I really don't remember it used beyond that. There was a picture of it in the BG News the following Monday as I recall. Seems like it was '87 or '88.

It was the ugliest play I've ever seen.....I'm not sure it would have looked good even if we had executed it flawlessly. In fact I'm sure it wouldn't have.

It was very ugly. I remember one game he tried it at Doyt for a few plays. I can't remember who it was against, but it was awful. There was no chance to get the play going as the defense wasn't really blocked.

What exactly was this formation like? I'm intrigued, to say the least.

I remember only the center and the two guards by the football. The tackles were on the line of scrimmage but away from the guards. It was basically a three man line. I guess it was supposed to create confusion on the defense, but that offense looked real out of sync.
