I don't understand why we have to lump ALL OSU fans into the same category. I have several friends that graduated from OSU and they all support BG except when we play head to head. There are they same fans that are jerks on the OSU board that there are on other ones. But lets not forget some of the support we have gotten from people from Oklahoma and such. As far as turning down a bowl, I understand their point. Bowl games should be rewards for successful seasons. In comparison to the history of OSU football this has not been a successful season. If they feel like turning down a bowl then fine. There are more deserving teams out there and everyone knows it, even OSU fans.
I am glad Dr. Bucko has brought up the actions of our student section. I am a student here at BGSU but when I started in the fall of 1995 we didn't act like that. I will tell you when it started, the season we hired Dan Dakich! We have went from the classiest student fans in the MAC to the worst. It's one thing to say "Who's he? Nobody!" in the hockey arena because we are not calling him names. But since the great DD was hired here at BG the student section has reverted to calling our opponents F&$*ERS, A$$HOLES, and everyother name in the book. And we are allowed to do it by the administration in the Athleti department. We are so two-sided in our policies it makes me sick. We announce no one is allowed on the field after the game and then do not make an effort to stop anyone; we say no profanity WILL BE TOLERATED in both the Ice ARena and Anderson Arena but do nothing to stop it either. When is the department going to grown a pair and enforce their own policies. If they are not, then get rid of them, it's that simple. The first time you toss the entire student section and tell them why we will be making a huge first step. But we also need to enforce amone all of our fans. In fairness, I know some non-students that are just as bad. The should be tossed as well. We are better than this, much better than this. And as much as I love BGSU, I am ashamed to be wearing the Orange and Brown when our fans act like this way. Now I am sure I will be strung up, but it's an issue that needs to stop being burried by "At least the students are coming to the games." As someone said in an earlier thread, that dog don't hunt.

yes but osu filed a lawsuit against OU b/c they word "Ohio" in their school name was apparently detrimental to osu. How lame is that. OU had to copyright it to protect themselves from osu....something that the oldest univeristy this side of the appalchians shouldnt have to do.BGSU96 wrote:"3. I hate the way OSU fans emphasize that they are "THE" Ohio State University, as if no other school in Ohio matters. Well, there are other schools in the state, they do matter, and some of them are in fact better than OSU, just not as big (THE Bowling Green State University). What right have you, OSU, to claim superiority over anyone? "
You have OU to thanks for Ohio State emphasizing the "THE". If Ou wouldn't have gooten all upset and copyrighted the name Ohio, then Ohio State wouldn't have to say The Ohio State University.

Bleeding Orange,
CRY ME A RIVER! and you said "your school" Im sorry but you dont own this school. you are just mad that I like OSU and go here. I love BG and Im glad I went here. You are just upset that I like OSU also. Sorry to burst your bubble but half the students at this school like another college football team (Michigan, Ohio State...) so sorry if I hurt your feelings.

This doesn't ring true with me.BGSU96 wrote:You have OU to thanks for Ohio State emphasizing the "THE". If Ou wouldn't have gooten all upset and copyrighted the name Ohio, then Ohio State wouldn't have to say The Ohio State University.
The word "The" isn't nearly as important in distingushing Ohio U. from Ohio State as the word "State."
In reality, Ohio State had been approrpiating the word "Ohio" for a long time without including the all-important modifier "State."
Perhaps Ohio U. was being nitpicky, but if I was running Ohio U., I would have sued Ohio State, too.
I suspect Ohio State's "The" had far more to do with its long-running academic inferiority complex to Miami than it had to do with Ohio U.
You are right about that Shu. Unless OSU was founded before 1804 they need to shut their mouths. I think you and I might have even had this same conversation once.BGSUfanatUT wrote:yes but osu filed a lawsuit against OU b/c they word "Ohio" in their school name was apparently detrimental to osu. THE OHIO STATE CAN KISS MY AZZ.
I've pretty much always felt that way, but when Brandon Schnittker said "We're Ohio State. We're not some Mid-American Conference team. We're here to win games" after the loss to Wisconsin, any remaining respect I had for The Ohio State went out the window.
I hate The Ohio State as much as I love BGSU. Which, frankly, is a whole heck of a lot.

Stop with the hurt feelings crap, eh? Gimme a break - no one denies that we have issues with students who are on the bandwagon for OSU. Most of us believe that Ohio State is the evil empire. It is the Wal-Mart of College football, and BG students and alums should root for BG first.goBG wrote:Bleeding Orange,

goBG - you went to BGSU and go to Ohio State? fine - root for your schools. I don't think anyone has a problem with that.
I can't agree with you that "there is no comparison." That is the Bullsh1t I get from EVERY Ohio State fan I know. [mocking]there is no comparison[/mocking]
Top recruits blah blah blah, more fans blah blah blah....
Despite all the Ohio State advantages, we still have a significantly better football team WITHOUT THE *COUGH* CLARETT *COUGH* CHEATING. There is a comparison! You CAN NOT ignore the facts. We compete on the same level with a lot less AND WE ARE BETTER!!!
Ohio State can kiss my orange hiney.

I loathe OSU. No one in my family (that I know of) went there, or will ever go there. I sure as hell won't ever let my kids go there.
When I was growing up (Cincy area) I got into this habit of not liking schools that everyone else rooted for. That would be OSU and UC. So I started rooting for teams like Syracuse, the Miami I went to, and Washington. Why the others, I dunno. All I knew was, it wasn't OSU. Then I figured out that I wanted to go to Miami, since my brother went there. The rest is history. I despise OSU due to exactly what everyone else on this thread is saying. Fairweather fans at our own respective schools, OSU student/alumni (not many alumni, have you seen those graduation rates?) feelings towards our respective schools, etc.
On a side note, I am pretty much marrying into a BGSU family. My fiance went there for a year until figuring out that she wanted to do dental hygiene. Her father, mother, older sister, 3 cousins, 3 married-in cousins graduated from BG. And her younger sister is currently a freshman at BG. You could say that BG is my second favorite school. I root for them anytime they play anyone, except for Miami. I wore ORANGE last year at the OSU and Toledo games. Wore ORANGE at your homecoming this year. It made last year very interesting.
Congratulations on a fine football season this year. You are, in my opinion, the best team in the MAC this year. I have even stated this on our Hawktalk. Too bad you didn't beat NIU, very similar to our loss against MarshaLLLLL. On one hand, I hope everything works out for you to win the West, but on the other, I would much rather face NIU if we beat Akron. You are steamrolling right now, and Omar is very fun to watch. Even if you don't win the West, I would be shocked if you weren't offered a at large bid. I think voters, coaches and the press know how exciting and dangerous your team is. Pitted against another high flying offense would make a great game.
BEAT TOM I. AMFATZ!!!!

Actually you have that backwards. OU sued Ohio State because they claimed that they claimed that bu Ohio State having OHIO on their uniforms it violates the copyright that OU had ont he word OU. OSU didn't sue OU, OU sued OSU.

BGSU19966, what?
1. It isn't hard to give up rooting for OSU. I was simply making it a formal split. Believe me, it wasn't like quitting smoking or anything (and you all who haven't yet done so can do it too!).
2. goBG, if you think OSU is so superior but you came here because you like our campus more, yes, you can get out of my school -- or should I say OUR school! Additionally, I never said anything about how we almost beat Ohio State last year. I was simply talking about how their fans are just as poor of winners as they are losers.
3. My same feelings about Ohio State apply to Michigan as well. If your excuse for liking Michigan is because their not Ohio State, SCREW THE WHOLE BIG TEN AND GO BG!!!!!!!!!!!

goBG, you are liked around here about as much Amstutz likes a diet. Get your pro OSU talk the hell out of here. If you like OSU that's fine, but when you act like OSU is superior to BG in football. That is just plain dumb. BAWAHAHA OSU needed a last second FG to beat Marshall. We could have doubled up the score on Marshall. I could careless that you grew up rooting for OSU. You are prolly one of those choch's who wears OSU jersey's to BG games.goBG wrote:Bleeding Orange,
