I've said it before, and I will say it again (now): I am so glad that Coach Stone stayed here. He and Orr are going to be a heck of a tandem in the MAC! :)

This sounds like an absolutely outstanding commit, and I can not wait to see him in the Seal Brown and Burnt Orange! GO FALCONS!!!

Sounds like a pretty good get. We have lagged behind the rest of the MAC in these 6'7-6'10 scorers. Hopefully Mr. Calhoun will help us compete with that position :)

Ladies and Gentleman...I give you Austin Calhoun.

HammB is absolutely right...these are the types of players we haven't been able to get in the past.

Welcome aboard Austin.

Nah, it's probably more like he wouldn't have come here because Dakich wouldn't let him wear the headband.

I think that's what Grant meant! But hey, if he can ball, I don't care what he wears besides his jersey top and bottoms! :D

With the baggy shorts the guys wear I would like to ask that he not go commando as well.

He can wear pantyhose and lipstick for all I care.

I like that BMF attitude that comes across in the picture.

With this commitment, all hoops scholarships are commited for 2008-9. Hamblet is our lone senior this year, and Calhoun will then fill that slot in the following season.

http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?yr=2008 ... me=Calhoun

They rank him as the 6th best Michigan PF prospect in next years class and a 2 star

That would be our only scholarship we had for next year(as we stand today). Like some said on here he sounds like the kind of player we need or rather is always nice to get and we don't already have. A double double as a junior on a decent team sounds good but it may be expected when you have that kind of height. (Dependent upon the league) Shooting out to 22 feet isn't and the coach also mentions shot blocking ability. (I have these visions of him next to Chris Knight with Otis my man down low. IF these scouting reports are accurate thats the best size and athleticism BG has had since I have followed them. )

I have tried to get this started in the past but have been unsuccesful. Anyone want to make an official Austin Calhoun thread where we track his progress through the year. It is nice to have an early commit to be able to do this with.

Exciting news, I look forward to seeing him here.

If Grant or Flipper need to delete this, please do so, but thank God that seemingly we have a coaching staff that "gets" MAC basketball.

I fully anticipate growing pains for the first 2 years b/c of the "talent" that Coach Orr is inheriting, but it seems to me that Dakich holdovers and mainstays like Erik Marshall and Dusan have been put on notice with our first couple of recruits in the Louis Orr era.

Calhoun and Medlock finally fit the profile of the athletic combo forward that OU and Kent and Akron have been excelling with for years. The same type of athlete that seemed out of the realm of possilbility with Dan in charge.

I have watched Joe Jakubowski several times over the last 3 years and he will fit in well, I believe, providing minutes at both guard spots. It'll be nice to have a guy on the outside who can punish defenses that sink into a zone b/c they were no outside threats.

I really believe we are turning the corner.

Anyone want to argue that Hamblet, Moten, Knight, Miller and Otis aren't our best 5? Miller would be a small 4, but I really believe that's our best 5.

Marschall is a fine offensive player, but is not a D-1 athlete capable of defending most, if any other 4s in the MAC. He would be a decent spot/role player in my opinion rather than depend on him for 25+ minutes a night.

What the hell are you talking about? Why would anyone delete that post? Do you have some sort pf persecution complex? Do you view yourself as a doormat? :-)
