Michigan State's Non-Conference Schedule

I found it very suprising that MSU plays no games against MAC teams. They have five teams within a 2 and 1/2 hour drive.

Maybe they are tired of getting smacked by the MAC.

I remember a quite from Jud Heathcoate after BG handed the #3 Spartans a loss at Andreson Arena to the fact that MSU will never play another game in a MAC arena. I know Izzo's at the healm now, but maybe it's a rule handed down.

I remember that quote as well. That was a great game at Anderson. There was a real long line to get in when the doors opened. It was a free for all to get the best seats possible. Steve Smith slipped and fell on the floor and Heathcoate complained about the moisture not being wiped up during timeouts. If I remember correctly BG was down 12-0 to start the game and then came roaring back. After that win, BG was undefeated and went down to Western Kentucky and lost. BG also beat MSU the previous year at East Lansing.

I was at that game. One of the BEST @ Anderson Arena - best of my college years. I stood on the floor at the end of the BG bench with a neighbor of mine who was ushering. MSU had headlights in their eyes all day long. The students were dancing on the floor to Beer Barrel Polka (that's what I call the tune) at timeouts and the hair on your neck stood every time BG made another stop or score and when the band played at timeouts. The student body seemed to shrink the court on MSU as they simply could do nothing right at times almost like a HS team visiting one of those stage floor gyms that is 10 feet narrower and 20 feet shorter.

The whole MSU bench was in disarray. They were complaining about everything at timeouts including the encroaching student body. I think after that game there was a sense that would be it for big schools coming to AA although we saw UM just a few years ago.

That day along with many great women's games of the late 80's/early 90's made me a fan of that little old arena. I hope to hear a sellout crowd rock AA like that one more time before they tear into it or replace it (at least one more time).

Theoretically, we should get UT at our place this year, right? If Coach Orr can get these guys together as we're all expecting, that could be a fun one to rock the ol' gym...

I played bass in the athletic band at that game. Got there WAY early, got to say hi to Steve Smith. Watched the line form, grow, and eventually snake out past the library. Just an AMAZING event.

I was there too. I think Jud got set off the most by Big Ten official Tom Rucker giving us a homer job against the Sparties.

UT games are very, very good. Although I have been to numerous UT/BG games at AA they do not compare to the Mich. St. There was something extra special about a ranked Big 11 team with a pre-season All-American. I hope that if we are both at the top of the conference this year I will be proven wrong and get that same shiver from the sounds of AA.

Whiteman to Moore...

I was in the lobby selling programs. I thought the crowd was going to enter through the windows as they pushed and pounded on the glass. I sold over 300programs in less than 45 minutes that day. I was pinched against the wall the whole time. Never had to move or could move more than 5 feet the whole time. Would have sold more but we sold out.

The women's team was walking around the lobby before the crowd entered and I believe they were in awe of the spectacle. I don't think the ath. dept. was ready for it either.

my fondest memory had to have been the UM game a few years back where after Keith hit his big three the place went so nuts you could actually SEE THE SOUND WAVES.

also what was great that ALL students for that game got an orange T-Shirt to fill up the student section (NOTE TO BGSU.......................)

IMO spend the money on the oppenent (Mich St., U Mich, or other over-hyped program of the day) and with their own t-shirt, or no shirt at all, the students will rock AA along with the sounds of the band.

Ziggy Zoomba- Seeing your Whiteman to Moore reminded be of another great game at Anderson. My freshman year, Whiteman hit the three at the buzzer to beat Toledo. Anderson went crazy.

That's the game where Ed Colbert got the rebound under the hoop and had enough smarts to kick it out to Kirk for the 3 to win!

Who was the UT guy who tried to go behind his back and lost the ball so that we could win? I don't remember... but yeah, that's another amazing finish of that era!

I can't remember the UT player either. Your right, with time running out, I didn't think Colbert would get it to Whiteman with any time left.
