unless GB drops AT , the punt formation, get strong and mixes up his playcalling, and if we have not gotten tougher on D this season.
next year will a near mirror...its sad
I still have a turntable at home and occasionally pull out the old vinyls and give them a spin. Problem is that they are old and tend to warp a little. I think its called the broken record syndrome-records just play the same thing over ..and ..over...and ...over...and ...over

No kidding...sheese. What will MACMAN say when BG finishes 8-4, wins the MAC East and plays for the MAC title? :-D
I will be the first in line to smoke some AT home grown..then go out on the town and bum rush some unsuspecting person!
Seriously Ill be delighted..but i know it wont happen, 5 maybe...BIG MAYBE
the better bet is buffalo finishes ahead of us.
We really are in a bad way folks.

The hockey team is in far worse shape...

If we don''t get hosed at Akron and if our kicker doesn't fall on his ass agaisnt Miami, we're 6-6 last year. We had two really bad games last year...the wretched perfomances against Kent State and Temple. The rest of the time, the team looked very good at times...they even managed to put 60 minutes of good football together against Athens.

We have a lot of starters back, we have some new faces like the kickers (having themin for spring was huge) and the other JUCO guys and we'll get some injured guys like Schaefer, Davis and DJ Young back.

Best of all, we have perhaps the most highly sought after HS recruit to ever play football at BGSU, our talented QB Anthony Turner. The only thing he'll be smoking in BG is MAC secondaries...

The KSU game was horrible. No question.

Again, if you look at the numbers vs. Temple, it was a microcosm of everything we had going wrong last year, regardless of who was at fault.

http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/ncf/boxsco ... =263010218

We outgained them by 150 yards, and two of their scores were 40+ yard plays (the young D was stung by giving up a big play or two a game, and paying for it. See also: CMU. A year's experience should show this year. I hope.) Another score was a 96 yd kick return...special teams was, um, not a strong point. That should have been focus A-Number 1 for the last 8 months. A punt was blocked and a field goal missed. See above.

Finally, we fumbled on the doorstep going in for a go ahead score. Who knows how that might have turned things. Even in our darkest hour last season, we were a handful of plays away from a different outcome. Of course, not letting those plays happen is the idea of the game so things need to change, but I'd like to see what we can bring before marking us off at 4-8 again. I expect the D to be improved, and even if Turner really CAN'T throw the ball (which I don't believe to be 100% true, we've seen what he can do in flashes here and there... consistency and confidence are his keys for '07), but if he can't throw, Bullock and Ransom might just take that need away.

Would it be ironic if in our first year away from natural grass, we started winning games pounding the other teams up and down the field on the ground? :D

The team just seemed so uninspired against Kent and Temple...that punt block at Temple was the one where the kid climbed up the fornt of our blocker, right?

AT CAN throw. Look at that first TD we had against Toledo. He threw a rope to Partridge after rolling one way and rolling back the other. There isn't a QB in the MAC that would have made that play any better. He just needs to be consistent with his mechanics. His completion % was a tad low...but his TD to INT ratio was pretty good for a guy who struggled with getting benched and dinged up a bit.. The talent is there.

So far as special teams go...consider the last two games with Miami. Their long snapper pretends he's snapping the ball to Hueston Woods and our kicker falls on his ass in the mud pile that changed the face of BG football.

Which is more embarrassing?

Yeah, it was. I forgot about that one. And you're right. After the first drive went in for an easy TD, you'd have thought they counted it for another 70. We moved the ball, but it didn't seem like we were there, and didn't wake up or recover when we had to. How/why we didn't show vs. KSU is a different story, but until we woke up against UB the week before, it was almost the same thing.

I agree with ya on AT, I really do. By saying "if he CAN'T throw", I mostly meant "if the AT that struggles with consistency shows up for 12 games"... if the guy that threw some bullets vs. UT, and brought us back vs. UB, and part of the way back vs. CMU, among others, shows up, he'll have a lot of folks singing a different tune come '08.

The end result is that this team has a lot of "if's" to work out, and if (there it is again!) they work out on the plus side (and the potential IS there), this team could be killer in MAC play. If the "if's" of last year are repeated...other unpleasantries will be repeated.

I'm with ya both, fellas. I watched the first half of the CMU game last night and the Chips had 4 BiG plays that won the game. Temple? Heck we were better in every stat except the score...again BiG plays. Young players get burned more often. Obviously our punt and kick teams need to get way better. Giving up BiG returns and having kicks blocked are such momentum changers. BG had SEVEN kicks blocked last year....SEVEN. Some teams don't get 7 kicks blocked in a decade.

AT? I'm really pullin' for him this fall....I hope he comes out rockin. With a healthy contingent of wr's and our backfield, I feel we can get back to putting points on the board. I think our D will be good enough where 24-28 pts will win most games.

Optimistic? Sure...you bet. I can't help it. I made the choice in my life to always think positive cuz negative thinking breeds like cancer. I'm sure the kids remember how the season ended in 2006 and want to erase the slate. Sebo Ct, new turf...excitement in the air for FALCON FOOTBALL.

Git er done in '07...I can hardly contain myself.
