When we play on ESPN, they call us "Bowling Green". The "State University" portion of the name is as necessary as breasts on the Pope.

I like the idea of combining the BG elements and the Falcon head. How many Falcons, or Falconesque teams are out there? Using the BG and the Falcon head is distinctive. It separates us from Falcon wannabes like Eagles and Redhawks. The old logo was really distinctive and really simple....but it was kind of limited in it's visual appeal...it doesn't convey anything emotionally...there was no real depth to it. I liked it...but I grew up with it. I like my brother because I grew up with him...if I met him on the street....probably not so much :-)

So far as the signs and the parking lot goes...you can't fix everything at once. I have no problem with spendig the $$ to identify the primary ID of the University before paving the lots. Hell, if you want to really be a dick about it, you could probably find problems on campus that could be used as a rationale to block spending $$ on anythig. Nothing would change, the campus would fall ito disrepair and we'd become Toledo.

No thanks....
The name of the school is Bowling Green State University. The sign on I-75 is a joke and embarrasing on several levels, and its been there for over a decade. On the other side of the road, you have Doyt Perry Stadium, with BGSU on the side of it, because that is the name of the school. Travel three hours south of BG-the town, and people often think you are refering to someplace in Kentucky. Miami, Ohio, and WMU's logo includes the name of the school, because as they said when adopting them, they are trying to sell the school.

This isn't being sold to us as a marketing stunt directed towards those who already know what the name of the place is.

And I for one do say BGSU and Bowling Green State University as much or more than "BG."

And as for the signs and parking space, you make my point exactly. Now, they can't fix everything at once, but it would be nice if they fixed everything at least once. So far, they haven't done that at all. And each time they start, they change logos in the name of marketing and consistency, and start over, so nothing ever gets done right. That parking lot is a pathetic eye sore. It has been for years. It looks like something that belongs in Bagdad or Detroit more than the first thing most people see in the city or school. And how many decades have they had time to fix that?

How much will they spend on another round of signs and uniforms during the next ten years, while neither eyesore on campus gets fixed?

I guess those people down in Columbus must be pissed too since that school simply uses a block O for their logo instead of an O, an S, and a U.

They use a block O because most of their fans can't spell the rest of the name.

Listen, I get it, OK? BG, its a thing, big deal. Its less to do with the logo in some ways, than the load of BS being used to sell the move. They are saying a move "had" to be made, when it didn't. Its not as if I'm going to avoid games and such because of it, as I and others have said. But it is the weak attempts to push this over as something its not. They make a big case for it, leaving a dozen other things sitting like gapping head wounds all over the place. It would be nice if they used their heads as much as their college degrees.

Remember last years game against SUNY-Buffalo? I'll bet all those people with "Ohio State" or "Michigan State" on their swag must also be similarly pissed. Also - what about those people who are freaking out right now because the "the" is missing in front of "OSU." I mean, it is the name of the university.

And I'm sure they buy the newest iPod everytime Apple introduces one because its obviously the logical and natural thing to do.

I'm sure everybody confuses Ohio State for someplace in Kentucky as well. With so few games on national TV, the mistake is understandable.

Maybe not Kentucky, but there certainly was some confusion with some folks from Athens over the name of the two schools.

I think the bet between the two schools was that the one that gets sober first gets to use "T*H*E" and State in their title.

The logical fallacies abound...you cannot assume the actions of the current AD will mirror those of the previous AD. GC has settled on peekabo BG as the primary mark for Bowling Green..(.yes Bowling Green..do you honestly want to talk to someone who thinks you went to school at a town in Kentucky?..). I can only assume peekabo is our bird for the future as GC has done nothing to indicate otherwise. He wants to consolidate..we have consolidated. accept the reality and get on with your life.

You also assume that $$ spent on the logo would have or could have gone to work on the parking lots. That assumes that there was a concious choice between the two. Do we know that the University wants to pave the lots? Do they view that as a priority? How deeply into the budget do you want to dig to play either/or? Toilet paper for the men's rooms vs light bulbs for Williams hall?

How many disparate elements in this equation do you want to draw together to rephrase the statement "I'm pissed that they changed that cute little logo we had"?

As for the sign...if it bugs you that much, nut up and take 'er down. I have an axe and a chainsaw you can borrow. Keep an eye on the axe...it seems to have a leg fetish.

I've never heard anyone just chant "BG" after the fight song. Please keep doing B-G-S-U so that we don't have to respond with five letters. :-D

How many weak points do you want to beat home trying to defend the change?

How much did they spend on a company to study the logos, to buy anything with the technically past logo, etc. No, you can't assume those monies would go towards a parking area or the sign. But it does go to illustrate the lack of consideration anything east of the AD's office gets. Not just in terms of the athletics department but the University itself.

Do actually think the parking lot looks good? That it isn't a joke having that sign on I-75 for nearly 20 years?

And are you actually going to try to tell anybody, myself or otherwise, they don't have a right and some reason to dislike the change and the reasons being given? Tell me you seriously don't actually want to go there.

We should have solved the genocide in Darfur before changing the logo.

Now before I " go there" or request that you "talk to the hand" or "get jiggy with it" or whatever Springeresque slang from 2002 we'd like to use...I have to ask something...why do you people care so goddamned much about the logo? It's not like it has ALWAYS been our logo...The old one was nice....but it's not like it was the NY Yankees pinstripes.

The change was made...stamp your little loafers and complain about all you want. Naysay he decision based on the cost all you want...it really doesn't matter because the cost isn't REALLY the issue for you. They took away your beloved falcon head blankie and that's made you collicy

Take an enema and deal with it....

NWLB, I could be wrong, but I believe as a donor you have the right to dictate how your funds are used. Make a donation with ellicit instructions as to they're use.

How many of you have been to the university this Summer? Construction projects are happening everywhere. Parking lots and roads all over campus are being improved. Harshman Quad is receiving the same great facelift that Krieischer got last year. Saddlemeier, *arguably* the biggest eye sore on campus is half way down already. The tennis courts are being rebuilt. The SEBO is nearing completion along with our new playing surface. And eve those pesky little parking lots by the freeway have seen some attention. I'm not saying they're paved now, nor do they have the subtle new landscaping touches that the regular lot 6 got earlier this summer, but they have been filled and leveled. With all the talk about a convo center going over there I highly doubt wasting money on pavement would be a smart decision until AFTER that new building is nearing completion.
Yeah right girl!

You truly are earning your title as global village idiot today Flipper. And actually READ the E'FFING posts for a change, since I already said it isn't going to do any good and that I already figured that.

It hasn't always been the logo, big deal, if you could read you'd have noted I already said that. And you'd also have read my point that you can pull things like that out of your arse, cobble them together, and try to make it seem like you have support for something.

As for why we or anybody cares? Since that reason is likely beyond you, lets ask why you want to play the role of colossal prick this week as some of your own fellow fans lament the loss of a bit of valued tradition?

Niz, very true, lots of good things are going on, never questioned that. But keep it in context. Sure the main campus is coming together, etc. I'm mentioning those points in making the point that the justification for these changes don't wash. And before Flipper goes even more bonkers for whatever reason, I know full well all of their talk is simply standard white-wash for something they were going to do anyway, regardless of what anybody said.

Funny enough, I for one actually wish we would drop the word “State” altogether from our school name and just be known as Bowling Green University, similarly to what Troy (Troy State) and Memphis (Memphis State) have done. When referring to the school name, I always say Bowling Green over Bowling Green State University. I also refer to it as BG instead of BGSU. And if that’s not enough, I’d also swap out brown for blue as one of our school colors. But that's just me and we certainly can’t always get what we want. In some cases, many would feel that is a good thing.

What I will say though is I think Christopher is doing an EXCELLENT job here at BG! I must be honest, when I learned we would be losing Krebs, I felt things might take a turn in a direction we would not like to see things go at BG. But in fact, the opposite occurred and in hindsight I really don’t think we couldn’t have made a better hire. This guy doesn’t just talk a big talk, he rolls up his sleeves and he gets things done around BG. And to me, that is very impressive because it has been needed for a long time. Now I know some things like the SEBO project were already underway before he got here, but look at what all he’s gotten done in the short time he’s been at BG. My hat goes off to him and I am very proud of the job he is doing. Now, if only the same could be said for the performances of our men’s teams…….
GO BG!!!
