Back on the meds, NWLB.
From the halls of ivy...

It is not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work - work with us, not over us; stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it. ~Ronald Reagan

That's because then you could swap out the UVA logo on your shirts with the BGSU logo. We've got your number 33!

To have three different logos on different uniforms is about as I-AA as you can get. Of course there will be those who don't like change and I can respect that.
I agree with all this.
And my biggest gripe is that it is a knock-off of the Redskins new logo.
I don't agree. The Falcon itself is much better.

NWLB wrote:The name of the school is Bowling Green State University. The sign on I-75 is a joke and embarrasing on several levels, and its been there for over a decade.
It's actually been there much longer. It may date back to William Jerome. Some president well before Olscamp -- and I think it was Jerome -- was pushing "Bowling Green University" for a while because he thought it sounded more prestigious.

The sign does look a bit weird. But, eventually a driver will hit it, and it will be replaced.

In any case, this "Bowling Green University" thing is an institution-wide branding issue. And, obviously, they've been going with "Bowling Green State University" and "BGSU" for a long time now.

However -- for as long as I can remember, BGSU has always presented its athletic teams as, simply, "Bowling Green."

It breaks the sportspage style -- which would be to refer to us as "Bowling Green State," given the institution's name -- and that means some confusion at times. But I absolutely agree that we should stick with the simplicity of "Bowling Green."

It's simpler -- easier on the mouth -- and it sounds a bit more upmarket.

"Bowling Green State" is mouthful of syllables that imply "provincial public college," e.g. "Kent State" or "Ball State" or "Murray State" or "Morehead State."

By just saying "Bowling Green," it comes off a bit like "Miami University," and I like that. It may also make city residents without a connection to the university feel more of a connection.

And, just using "BG" in the logo works for me, too.

The official fight song does not include an "S-U," after all.
That parking lot is a pathetic eye sore. It has been for years. It looks like something that belongs in Bagdad or Detroit more than the first thing most people see in the city or school. And how many decades have they had time to fix that?
Look, it could use a bit of landscaping, maybe, but you can't tell me that acres and acres of asphalt would be that much prettier. I prefer tailgating on gravel, and it's probably environmentally friendlier.

Schad, I'm not talking about the traffic sign, I'm talking about the big private sign for the research enterprise park.

And I'm in favor of anything that looks neater and more tidy than lose rubble with barriers to prevent people from driving into ruts in the drainage. And in particular doing it the way the master plan laid out. Lots of curves, more trees, landscaping.

BGSU...BG...BGU...whatever. All I know is that a degree in geography from the University of South Florida in Tampa probably isn't worth much.

This is actually growing on me.

It would wreak havoc on our unofficial fight song, But, it could be cool.
