Second High School Football Game to be played at "The D
According to bgsufalcons.com this morning in addition to Findlay vs. St. John's on August 23 Bowling Green and Fostoria will play on the new turf on August 31. That will be two additional games played in the first month of the post-grass era. Aside from the logo discussion there is not much the AD has done that has not has an almost immediate positive impact on BGSU Athletics.

I wonder if they are using these games as "live action" trials of the new turf. Things like seams coming undone, dead spots, logo fraying, and other potential problems can surface before an actual BG game. This goes above and beyond what you might discover during a BG practice on the new turf.
The manufacturer/installers may recomend something like this before the first college game is played? I wonder if OSU has any plans to "test" their new turf with actual game action before the season starts?

That is an excellent point....makes sense to me.

They'll probably have a Browns preseason game there before the season begins. It would be a great honor for players like Charlie Frye & Steve Sanders to get the opportunity to play in a glorious stadium like the horseshoe. Something that those guys missed out on by going to MAC schools.Rollo83 wrote: The manufacturer/installers may recomend something like this before the first college game is played? Tongue planted firmly in cheek, and yes I realize that both of those guys played at the 'shoe.

While visiting my in-laws in Piqua I read an article addressing this very thing. I guess OSU is holding some kind of football camp for either high school or middle school kids on the turn at Ohio Stadium before practice begins. According to the article this was designed to break the turf in and allow some of the material to settle before OSU has a home game. I am sure these two high school games were planned with that in mind. I would still like to see us add 3 or 4 more high school games this season, just for the exposure.

If Ohio State wins the state football title games, I’d expect we see somebody want to practice on our field too. Helps having the same brand-name of turf as was just installed at OSU. Silly? Nah, you have to know some coaches are thinking of it.
Good stuff all around. Great for BGHS getting Fostoria to come north. Out of curiosity, how often, if at all, has Fostoria come up to BGHS or have the Bobcats gone south to play them? I ask seeking to learn if the new turf is helping a local team attract a otherwise fancier out of league team than might otherwise be the case.
Regardless, the snowball is rolling now.

BG and Fostoria have had an alternating home and home series off and on for the last 5-7 years I believe. I know I broadcast BG-Fostoria at BG and at Fostoria in successive season in 03-04ish.NWLB wrote:If Ohio State wins the state football title games, I’d expect we see somebody want to practice on our field too. I definitely think if a school is heading to C-bus for state finals they would potentially want to practice on the same turf.

I doubt anyone bothers to be BGHS's rival lately....in my time at Perrysburg ('02-'06) they were one of the only schools we beat consistently, and I'm talking about Perrysburg teams that won 10 games THE FOUR YEARS I WAS IN HS COMBINED!!!!!!!!orangeandbrown wrote:BG and Fostoria used to be big rivals, and opened the season against each other, IIRC.
Sorry, after that plus last year's disappointing BG season, football has me a little frustrated.

erich...is Perrysburg/Maumee still a big deal? I remember being a little suprised by the itensity of the rivalry when I went to Pburg in '78. Guys would actually get into fights over it...I worked at the Wendy's in Maumee in '79 and the maumee girls there wouldn't talk to the Perrysburg girls....they talked to me, but I had yet to go bald back then...
St John's has a kid or two that will play 1A football next year. I don't know about Fostoria, BG or Findlay, but games like this could be a nice recruiting tool.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
You may want to get your facts straight....Perrysburg finished with a 7-3 record last year and finished in first place in the league at 6-1. BG finished 5-5 overall and 5-2 in the league (tied for second).eRichFalcon wrote:I doubt anyone bothers to be BGHS's rival lately....in my time at Perrysburg ('02-'06) they were one of the only schools we beat consistently, and I'm talking about Perrysburg teams that won 10 games THE FOUR YEARS I WAS IN HS COMBINED!!!!!!!!orangeandbrown wrote:BG and Fostoria used to be big rivals, and opened the season against each other, IIRC.

BG has struggled the past few years but made good strides last year. They only lost a couple of key players to graduation so this looks to be a good season for them. Should be interesting.
