PJ Pope...Not Good News
PJ Pope...Not Good News
From the Packers Web Site this morning following a team scrimmage last night...
Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Aug. 4
(What happened to P.J. Pope?)
P.J. went down with a knee. I haven't had a chance to talk to (head trainer) Pepper (Burress) yet but (Pope) went down with a knee early in the scrimmage. I don't have a final diagnosis on him.
Just when had a great opportunity to make an impact in camp and on this team.

Pope has knee surgery
Packers running back P.J. Pope had arthroscopic knee surgery and likely will miss a couple of weeks, coach Mike McCarthy said after practice today.
Pope hurt the knee in Saturday’s scrimmage. With Vernand Morency also out with a knee injury, the Packers likely will have only three running backs plus fullback Corey White to carry the ball in Saturday’s preseason opener at Pittsburgh.

Agreed.1987alum wrote:He may be back, but the window of opportunity may be closed by then. Really crappy timing.
He would've been much better off for it to be a serious injury that they could put him on IR for and he would be back in their camp next year. This injury will have him ready to activate right at the end of camp when there's almost no time left to prove himself to the staff.

I had a client once who was seeking custody of his child. Just before the hearing he accidentally shot himself in the head while unloading a shotgun. When I saw him I commented that the timing was really bad-he replied"Sir, I am here to tell you that there is no such thing as a good time to shoot yourself in the head with a shotgun." The quote seems apropos here.1987alum wrote:He may be back, but the window of opportunity may be closed by then. Really crappy timing.

Or one of Hannah's dad's concerts which I had to endure to see Doug Kershaw, who followed. Anyway this was before HM came along, but, yeah... Having girls is tough, and soooooo Raven.Flipper wrote:It's obvious to me that shotgun man has never had to sit through consecutive episodes of the Disney Channel's 'Hanna Montana'.
That's an experience that simply cries out for a shotgun blast to the cranium

P.J.'s best hope may be for some of the other running backs to suck at catching the ball or as special teams contributors. Supposedly, the Packers liked what they saw of him running between the tackles. Unfortunately, they've got at least three draft picks at running back, plus a couple of vets. And Herron looked pretty good in the scrimmage Saturday night.
