Blade story

Probably doesn't mean too much, but I figured now that we have actual practices going on, we might want to stop talking about the same crap from the last six months.

Especially the first part of the story... I think the defense is gonna get after it this year. Smith and Dozier will make sure of it.

And don't forget Briggs. I can still see him storming up and down the bench during the Temple game; he was in the face of every defensive player he could find. I think our D is going to put a hurtin' on a lot of people this year.

Coach Ward has always struck me as being a pretty intense individual. I think the defense will reflect that quality this year. Looking at the talent and depth on the two deep, I can't recall having that many good athletes on defense, at least not since the early 90's when we had the Killer B's and Artie Mangham...I think the defense is really going to suprise some people this year.

I'm not too suprised to see Sheehan leading the pack at QB right now...didn't one of the OLinemen put him over pretty strong in the paper a week or two ago? When the OLine is voicing a preference for a QB, that tells you a lot...

Agreed across the board. I expect our defense to be much improved. As you said, we have athleticism on that side of the ball we haven't had in quite awhile. Most of them got major minutes/starts last year as well, so they're all a year more experienced...hopefully that will prevent some of the big plays that plagued them last year.

As to the QB situation, I've made it no secret that I have lost almost all faith in Turner. I just have not seen anything from a mental side from him to make me think he'll ever become a consistent starting player. If Sheehan is our best chance to win then Sheehan should be playing. He didn't show much last year either, but at least he was a true freshman. Turner was a RS Sophomore with previous starting experience still making those true freshman mistakes.

It'll be interesting to see how that QB situation plays out. I expect we'll be better than last year based solely on the improvements we can make on defense, but if we don't get much improved QB play we will not be contending for a championship or bowl berth.

Of course if they only quote the one lineman who prefers Sheehan and everybody else is begging the coach to bring back Freddie Barnes yo really don't get a good picture. Just the one that thee paper wants you to have.

Well...sure..if you're paranoid and you want to assume the newspaper has an axe to grind, you might figure that the reporter would quote a minority opinion to make it appear to be a view held by a majority.

You Toledo people don't trust the Blade at all, do you?

I didn't even know which paper you referred to but let me ask you this: Do YOU trust the Blade?

Hey, it is YOUR newspaper. You are whining to the wrong people. We have our OWN newspaper not to trust. We don't need to spend more time questioning the political agenda of other newspapers.

I'm with you on this Hammb. We've always thought of Turner as a run first QB. Simply put, we have enough people to carry the ball. Not that I don't enjoy a good QB scramble every now and then (and I still have a picture of Josh Harris on my phone), but we need to spread the field. I just don't think AT can do that. My opinion, he went from making irresponsible throws in 2005 to holding onto the ball too long in 2006. I don't think that we should wait until the season has been written-off to find out if he will hit the happy medium. Sheehan was rough around the edges, but you could definitely see that defenses quickly had to drop back into coverage when he took the field.

To be honest, I just want us to win. If AT can get it done, so be it. Thing is, I just have a similar take on the situation as Hammb right now.

Go Falcons!

I have family that works there in "content" related positions, so I'm a bit biased. I will go so far as to say I do not entirly trust he motives of the strange little man that publishes that paper, but I don't hink he's concened enough about the BG QB situation to tear himself away from completing his state dobjective to destroy Toledo

Agreed on all fronts, though I must concede that I'm probably even more biased, since my dad is an editor there. That "strange little man" essentially puts a roof over my head, food in my stomach, and sends me to this fine institution of higher learning. That being said, I can't imagine that Block gives a hoot about BG football and their brewing QB controversy.
Finally a senior!
