Game tape footage from '98...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

I've been watching game tapes from past seasons to get me thru the next 29 days. I was watching the '98 game vs Marshall when we slapped them silly, 34-13. The Doyt today as opposed to almost 10 years ago is night and day. Seeing guys like Kurt Gerling, Khary Campbell, Chad Long, Mark Kautzman, Eric Curl, Robert Redd, Joe O'Neill, Jason Strasser and others was cool. I'll never forget that game. I remember looking up at the scoreboard in the 4th quarter and seeing BG up 31-7...thought for sure I was gonna wake up any minute.

The Doyt still had the orange bleachers.

29 days....

Funny enough, I actually miss those orange bleachers. Not the shape that some of them were in, but I miss that faded shade of orange inside the stadium.
GO BG!!!

Freshman year.........got out to the game early in the second quarter and while we were outside the Doyt, we heard the PA guy announce the score. Thought for sure he said it backwards.

Didn't Bob Niemet play the game of his life that day?

Yeah, Bob Niemet came into that game only hitting 36% of his passes but was right on the money that day. Kurt Gerling was all over the field, as usual, snagging passes. I think he finished with 2, maybe 3, TD catches and had another one bounce off his hands. The Herd faithful were absolutely stunned that day...and so was the BG crowd. NOBODY expected that to happen as the Herd came in at 8-0 and BG was 2-5. Just goes to show you never know what can happen and ya better bring your A game every time.

Speaking of Gerling, I was trying to decide between him, Magner and Partridge. All 3 are so similar...great hands, run great routes and they play PHYSICAL football. Mark Schlazchic is another guy in that mold. I'll take players like these guys any day of the week.

I still see Gerling at a game or 2 almost every year...he and his Dad, Steve, usually come to the games. Steve is always a cool dude. Must run in the family.

I do, too. I still think the grey is drab by comparison.

Anytime, bro! It was a first and last time I ever saw you not come up with the catch. The over the shoulder grab at Michigan in 2000 was a beauty as well...sorry that the collarbone got broken on the play, though. It was the collarbone, correct?

BTW, we'll be up for Mich State and EMU this season so hope to see you there...and at the Doyt! The old ball yard looks unbelievable now!
