DirtyTurf??

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

I took this picture last evening after the team was done with their walkthroughs.

Image

I assume a rake and some rain will make everything look fresh and crisp again, but it was a little concerning to me.

More pics and some shots of Saddlemeier being destroyed are here:

Grant-
I noticed in one of your pictures that the chair seats have been replaced on the east side, and they look darker brown than the old ones. Did they paint them or something? I had not noticed that when I was out there.

Good eye! I'm not sure. Didn't notice as I just stopped by for a quick look around after my heat-stroke inducing session at the Rec. lol... my mind may have been too fried to notice.

Are we sure that the cam just has not been permanently disabled? Especially if the team is going to be practicing some on the new field now.

They look pretty new from Grant's pic. I know they had to move some of those chairbacks to repair the leaking areas of the locker room. Love the new goal posts as well. BTW Grant, your "eye" avatar on your pic site freaks me out. It follows me wherever I go!

From my experience being around field turf.. the grind stuff used on it will be kicked around a lot and especially in the bright orange places may look dirty from time to time. Thats just my guess.

To my eyes, it doesn't look like dirty turf, as much as the blades being ruffled to a different angle than they normally lay. In person it might look different, but here, it looks not much different than when you sweep the carpet and pull the machine opposite to the grain/lay of the threads.

We were at the stadium one of the days the regrind (chopped Nike soles) was being spread on the field. Most of the regrind was black, but there was also some lighter stuff. It was sitting up in the turf and looking about like the picture above. I imagine there's a grooming device that will rake the blades and get the chop back down below "grass" level. Either that, or it gets worked down over time and doesn't come up as much as we're seeing it now.

Edit: I just found some interesting videos. Check out "Infill Segregation"

Oh, you're clever, you are. Why don't you go write a blog post about press release abnormalities?!
