Hey all. I'm new to this blog and am glad to find it. I've been a BG hockey fan since 1978 and have seen the glory and not so glorious days of this hockey program.

Quick thoughts: Unice not coming hurts for several reasons. First, it must put a question in other future recruits minds when something like that happens. Obviously he was a good talent, how good won't be known for years, but I believe we would have been better off with him than without. He's a local kid as well, which makes it even more troubling given the fact he could have played in front of friends and family quite often.

The biggest problem I see with the program is the lack of support from the school itself. While many schools have or are upgrading facilities, we patch up things and try to keep it going. This is obvious and is obvious to recruits and their parents. This program needs the University leadership to get behind it if is ever going to get back to what it once was. At least pave the parking lot so it doesn't look like one in Baghdad. First impressions mean a lot, and the parking lot is the first thing you see. If I were a recruits parent , I could tell before I completed the turn into the rink's parking lot that this University does not support it's hockey team.

After having said all that, I think this years team can compete and will make a surprising jump if they get started out on the right foot. It's a very young team. The roster as posted on the BG website is wrong. It has Cepis as a Jr. defenseman. He's a freshman forward and a good one. I'm not sure how many other mistakes there are on it.

GO BG!!!

Welcome to the board!
Any BG hockey fan is by definition an optimist, but I think we have good reasons to look forward to this season.
We have a nice senior class. This may be Derek Whitmore's year to score lots of goals. He's a great skater and puck handler, and if his teammates find him in the right spot, he'll put it in. The other seniors have played enough that they know what it takes, and they seem to have the right attitude.
I like the 3 S's in the junior class, for different reasons. Schmidt can play D, and has a heavy shot when he can take it; Sinkewich is just a good strong man, and if he can stay out of the penalty box, should slow down the opposition; Svendsen started showing his prowess as a freshman, he's always after the puck - get him on the right line and he'll score often.
Most of the sophmores got lots of minutes per game last year, so they're coming into '07-'08 ready to roar. Kyle Page is as good a defenseman as anybody, anywhere. McIlrath, Kantola, and Petruska can all step up.
Here's hoping the new goalie and Jimmy will get along, and are both good enough that they can be alternated every other game the way Mason did it some years back when he had two good goaltenders.
It comes back to the old rule of 3: score more than 3, don't give up more than 3. This team can and should be in that zone.

Welcome to the site.
I think Unice leaving is not as bad as it could be...a one season and done wold have been worse and now we have Eno coming and hes no slouoch and should be strong enough to get the start spot and play a key roll right away esp since out team is far better in alowing fewer quality shot attempts than the green mtn team he is coming from.
Falcon hockey is comig back, the Univ is making way towards the new facility and it most likely will be one of the best once done.
enjoy watching the return, this team has loads of talented players and is a sollid team we should see clear proof of that very soon.

Nope...not this year. Not until we see a change in the locker room. Pooch is circling the drain with his lack of discipline and hockey smarts.

We spoke to Todd Reirden the other night and he said that losing Unice was a blessing in disguise due to his over inflated ego. He stated that Eno is extremely coach-able and will be very, very good by the time he completes his eligibliity. Remember that this kid was also drafted after only one year of playing juniors. Prior to that he only played high school hockey which makes the fact that he was drafted even more impressive. There were also several other high profile teams looking at him for the following year (ie. Maine). The coaches are very excited about how this whole debacle turned out and feel that we're better off now than before whats his name decided to renege on his commitment.

That is great, from what I have picked up from some friends is the exact same. while arrogance in a goalie is good, to much is bad and communication with the coach is key. Everyone says this kids head is in the right place.
Word is hes working out the team now, so Im going to drive down to BG and check him out.

You're stalking this kid? I'm sure the kid and his parents appreciate the warning
