I really found this part of his answer to the second question interesting:

Other MAC schools meet the D-I requirements, although a good portion of the conference has football attendance hovering around 15K. If any school ever drops below any of the requirements, there is a probation period before the NCAA takes some set of actions. Regarding the football attendance requirement, the ultimate penalty schools face is being declared ineligible for any post-season games (conference championships or bowl games).

So let me get this straight, the ULTIMATE penalty is being declared ineliglbe for post-season play? Thought it would be more harsh - like being dropped from I-A.

As for the helmets, let's break out the spray paint again!

That helmet is historically signifigant because it is one of the first college helmets to feature a logo on it.... back in 1963.

The Helmet project says it appeared in 61, DD, the 63 version doesn't have brown stripes around the white stripe.

Flip, You're right on with that...and the decals etc. also featured a falcon with talons unfurled.... Too bad M-Man isn't aware of BG's history...or present for that matter!

The spray-painted Falcon reminds me a little of the hawk logo that Iowa wore back in the 60's.

The interlocking BG works all right for me. But then I was at B.G. during the Browns helmet era -- when we didn't even have a logo. The original Falcon was fine with me. I never even saw the L T -- until I read about it on this board and now I can't even look at the old logo on my ball cap without the damn thing jumping out at me.

Just don't bring back the chicken hawk -- although if we can just put together some quallity football, I'll live with any logo.

Generations? Hardly. In any case, it was a step towards creating our logo, not the end of the road. After BG became a full university in the 30s, much of the time after that was spent developing an identity. And it wasn't until the mid 1960s, as the LT logo came into being, that the University assumed its current general size and mission. This is why I said the old geezers from the 50s and beyond, who were attached to old logos, hardly represent the majority of living alumni to come after them.

Much as we now see starting with these new changes, the school has slipped back into a vague attachment to things with no lasting value, like those old logos. The "real" logo, which it was/is, had over 40 years of use, which no other logo can come close to matching.

I gotta say, I really do like the new helmets and wonder if the uniforms will look different as well...it seems that this conversation has missed that point. New font for the numbers? New piping or whatever? It will be interesting to see if jerseys and pants change and how the helmets look with the uniforms.

A Little Trivia...The Cleveland Browns and BG Falcons have the same colors because Paul Brown loved the Falcon colors, and the Browns had their training camps in Bowling Green before moving to Berea. This is also why, back in the day, the Falcons and Browns had almost identical uniforms during several seasons....Learned that from Mickey Cochrane, former soccer/lacrosse coach at BG...check out the Athletic Archive at Anderson Arena sometime!!!

The question was something like "Where did the Browns' colors come from," and the answer, of course, "Bowling Green." They talked about how BG was the first site of Browns' training camp and how Paul Brown fell in love with BG's color scheme. Wills said something like "Well, I always thought it was the other way around." My alarm went off shortly after 6:30, and it was actually the first thing I heard this morning - which is a pretty sweet way to start out the day.

Not that I recall. I mean, they might have, I suppose, but I literally woke up to the conversation so I wasn't exactly all there yet.

I have often heard of their friendship, but no details. I would love to know more about it.

I know Perry, Schembechler, and Hayes had a pretty tight group but I haven't heard too much about Perry/Brown.
