Freshmen Move-In

Ah....frosh move-in. The day where I crack open a beer and watch parents get in near fist fights over borrowed carts.

My frosh year, BGX wasn't mandatory, but I did it anyways to beat the rush. Come to think of it, I've never moved in on-time. What's everyone's memories of move-in?

I lived in Kreischer Darrow my freshman year. I got permission to "move" in a day or two early. Just my stuff. Move in that year corresponded with closing the Perrysburg city pool for the season. I managed the pool and knew how to milk the city out of over-time hours so I didn't want to deal with taking off a whole day to move into my room. My parents and I drove down to move my stuff in. Walk up to the front desk to get my key, sign in etc. Pretty soon all of the RAs were gathered around with some akward faces. Turns out, a mistake had put me and my roommate on the first floor, which then was just a female floor. Needless to say my conservative parents were not pleased. It took them 2 weeks but we got finaly got moved up to the 4th floor. Which of course is where I met my wife, who was the RA on the girls side of the floor. I spent a lot time in her room.

Working for the REC also got me back in the dorms a week early over christmas as well. When you're the only one(s) on the floor, the dorms can be just as fun.

And not that I'm nearly as old as '87, RUIT, Grant or even TG, but man at almost 10 years ago, it seems like a long time. Not sure if I will be able to remember it when I get their age.

It was cake because I moved in with the band way before everyone else, though I was never fortunate enough to drink a beer whilst the others moved in.

I really don't remember a whole lot about move in. I came to Founders in the middle of the year, so that didn't count coming in January. Then 2 years in Darrow, I don't think I must have moved a whole lot of "stuff" when I moved in b/c it was always pretty much a non-event. Maybe that comes from living only 20 miles away.

The last two years in Haven House apartments were more fun because we could move in whenever and as described above, just watch the madness and mayhem. Good times... good times...

They always seem so appreciative, and the best part is watching them after they move in and their parents finally leave. Oh boy, the clothes come off and there's not much left on, then. Needless to say, I crack a beer and take a gander as well.

Since we're on the topic, I must say that the scene I frequent the most is Mac Beach in the first couple weeks of school. The scenery is excellent.

Does anybody have a spot on campus they liked? My office is in the math science building, so mac beach is very accessible, but since we're discussing freshmen move-in, why not discuss favorite memories about the entire experience lol.

Hey, wait a minute ...

Freshman move in (yes, w-w-w-w-w-w-ay back in '83) was hilarious, because my very good friend and I were in a 5-man room in Treadway. One of our new roomies came in, met us, then spun around and left. Apparently, it was the first time they had any interaction with a black person. We laughed about that for years to come.

LOL... I was in 11 Treadway for a while. It was a "subterranean" room that looked out into the center court. I didn't have any ethnically diverse roommates though, just one who shot steroids, one who was gay, and one who went to high school with Christian Laettner. 5-man rooms... what a great idea. NOT

Gotta agree with that. Some poor sap in each room didn't get closet space and was forced to use the dresser in the middle of the room. That poor sap was me. And then try hanging your stuff in the closet with two other guys stuff. Not cool.

No good move-in stories. Maybe that's because I drank too much and don't remember anything.

Those 5-man rooms were friggin' nightmare. Founders was so packed with people. And you're right, the 5th guy was definitely the odd man out.

And privacy? Forget it. Not an option.

Footballguy51: Treadway was (is?) the West side of the Founders Quad.

Is it possible to drink too much if you're from Putnam County?

But I am certain my "Putnam County Drinking Card" has long since been revoked. I would be dead if I kept drinking like I did back then.

I remember moving into Conklin. It was very hot, it was the summer of 88 when there was a prolonged drought in the midwest. I was one of the first to move in that morning. The elevator was not working and my dad and I had to haul my belongings up the stairs. It was my first exposure to the tractor pull as well.
