Scrimmage Today

Post by Spart43 »

Anyone heading to the scrimmage today? I am sad because I actually can't make it up for it.

Was hoping some of you were headed that way and could give us a report.

What time is it scheduled for?

Ah, you know thats a good question. Since I wasn't able to go, I didn't ask Corey what time. I will try and find out.

If it happens to be this evening, I'll try to check it out. But I suspect it will be in the afternoon.

Were you able to see any of it? Any info on the QBs?

I wasn't there but have heard multiple accounts about the final forty minutes or so of it when Turner was in. Heard he looked really sharp, the receivers looked great, and the defense looked even better. I wish I could have been there to see it. Apparently Zach Charles had a great play and looked really good the entire time.

I really hope to see Charles break out this year. We heard all last summer about his great speed, then all we see from him in games was 5 yard hitches & 2 yard outs. A real waste of his talent, regardless of who plays QB we must spread the field vertically more this season.

Turner was very good today. I thought Sheehan had some nice intermediate throws for completitions, but it is obvios that he cannot hit a reciever down field to save his life. Turner worked mostly with the second team, while Nate Brown ran the third team and split time there with Glaud. I thought the defense looked very good. It is obvious that their tackling is much improved. That was the defense's achillies heel last year and they look to have improved on that greatly. Vrvillo hit a 55 yd field goal today with ease, but then proceeded to clank an extra point off the upright, so we shal see about him, but he def. has the leg to get the job done. Willie Geter continues to impress me. It looks like he and Bullock will split time at the RB postion as kind of a thunder and lightning type deal. I wonder where ransom has been. Overall I think the team looks very focused and looks good for a week 1 upset of the Gophers.

Yep...that's a concern because IIRC, a hamstring injury kept him from getting "big time" offers before last year.

Glad to hear that Turner is picking it up a bit. I honestly think we're a QB away from being one VERY good football team.

A QB, more consistent D (which we may already have), and a competent coaching staff, and I think we're right there.

I thought Sheehan looked better than Turner.... actually that was what everyone around me was saying.

I think both QBs looked decent but would have to give the upper hand to Sheehan. AT had one ball that he missed the receiver by 15 yards on a go route. I do think that both quarterbacks looked improved today, so we will see how things shape up in the next week or so.

As far as the extra point that Vrvilo clanked, Corey said that the snap got there really late, so I am not sure if it was all Sinisa's fault.

Charles did play well today, but to be honest, I think it was the first time I was impressed with him all camp. The reason we only saw mostly hitches from him last year was probably because he was dealing with the hamstring issue last year that hobbled him a bit.

annd I am still amazed by Geters toughness and quickness. :D
