I didn't play in the band, but I really like it! I have friends in it!
And yes, I am an alumna, season ticket holder for all sports, and a falcon club member.
I couldn't get a broadcast from BG or Toledo and I live 70 miles away. So whomever Norm is- he can take a long leap off a short dock.
Doesn't this Norm guy have anyone else to talk to? Isn't there some sort of THING going on with UT athletes? Wouldn't THAT be newsworthy?

Hang in there... someday.... someday....h2oville rocket wrote:We don't have any recently fired coaches who are still bitter at their lack of success and want to blame someone else. Yet.

Neither do we. Now "recently resigned coaches..." would be a different story entirely.h2oville rocket wrote:We don't have any recently fired coaches who are still bitter at their lack of success and want to blame someone else. Yet.

I usually do listen to Norm's show, but Dan is almost always on in the 4:00 hour...while some of us still must be working
I have called on numerous occasions to his show. Rarely does the subject turn to BG sports, and I get the feeling that Norm is very jaded by how "nice" our coaches (Dakich & Brandon anyways) have been to him in the past. He seems to defend them to the death. He was still lobbying for Dan to be retained (see a Toledo Free Press article around March or so) up till the last dying day. He still defends Brandon, and told me last year that I was being too hard on him because BG should not expect to be at the top of the MAC every year.
The next time I hear the show turn towards MAC sports I will happily call in and discuss it with him, as I have in the past. Unfortunately the nature of the show is filled with traffic reports & commercials. It oftentimes takes 10-15 minutes to get on the air, and then they would rather usually discuss pro sports or the Big 10 than the MAC.
And Norm, I'm Brian Hammer. I've discussed BG athletics with you several times in the past. I have no hidden agendas, I just like to talk MAC sports. Unfortunately I don't get to hear Dan talk on your show too often, but since he's reading this he can see it himself.
Dan, you are quickly working to lose the respect of one of the few that actually had any left for you. I missed no more than 2-3 home hoops games a year over the past 7-8 years, also made multiple road trips to places like Akron, Oakland, Ypsilanti, and Toledo. I steadfastly supported your teams even when it was obvious they were overmatched both physically & mentally. I always thought that you were a classy guy who represented the town & school well, despite many who thought you were a pathetic Bobby Knight wannabe. I always said that your true colors were as a family man, giving to the community, and generally friendly on campus; the complaining about officials or whining about scheduling problems were just your bad points. I'm sorry things didn't work out for you, but we are still the same city that you professed your love for after the Morgantown snafu, it is you that were not the same coach. Still many of us remembered that first stint and gave you many years to turn things around. Let BG go, and move on with your life Dan. You're making yourself look like a classles jerk with a grudge; don't make your legacy as a good guy, poor coach turn into the whiny ass who wouldn't go away.

The question of participation is a two sided coin...let's say a nickel for argument's sake. Perhaps more of us would call Wamer's show...heck we might even tune in...if Norm were to sashay...and yes I mean to use the word sashay..over here and post. Make yourself known Wamer...quit hiding behind the skirt of the anonymous lurker!!
So far as Dan goes...whatever, Dan. Nobody put a gun to your head in 1997 and nobody put a gun to your head in 2002, you came into this situation with your eyes open andwith a complete understanding of the challenges you faced. You didn't get it done here. You weren't able to meet those challenges. I'm sure that's not the result you envisioned when you came here...on both occasions...but that's how it played out. Take all the shots you want to at the University and the athletic department and the fans...it won''t make reality any more palatable

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
I was in a band once. We called ourselves the Norm Wammers. We sang into tin cans to have the Norm effect. We rocked in a MOR sports talk show way. People not only couldn't stand our voices, but they couldn't stand our sets. We played at the Toledo Airport lounge. Good times.
I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.

You are way off base if you think we have JUST bitter athletic department people. We got loads more problems than that. Haven't you been paying attention? But we don't have any recently fired coaches who are still bitter at their lack of success and want to blame someone else. Yet.tiznow wrote:h2oville rocket wrote:We don't have any recently fired coaches who are still bitter at their lack of success and want to blame someone else. Yet.
Just bitter employees of the athletic department that blamed someone else and had to be hired back.
I second the sentiments already expressed 100%.
I can't recall a Division I coach resigning after a string of losing and regularly returning to the local market to bash the fans. (Ronny Thompson, care to join the club?) At least Urban Meyer keeps his little barbs infrequent and directed at the University itself. This guy is calling us out directly!
It's a toss up on what's worse--the whining by Dakich or the continued platform he retains to launch his newfound bitterness and excuses into the ether.
