Who the heck would believe that? That's so weird... why would the QB be walking towards the coach?
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

I think the ploy was that they were using the wrong ball...

Actually - this is an illegal play..... otherwise known as "Where's the Tee". I was looking for a ruling on football shoes and stumbled on the Forum for Officals at National Federation of State High School Assocations.

You really don't what to know why I found this site...... but it concerns an idiot ref at one of our Freshman Scrimmages who was telling our coaches that screw-in spikes were illegal...... He was wrong. They are permitted, however they must not be greater than 1/2" in length.

You actually have 2 flags on the play...an illegal snap, and an unsportsmanlike conduct...take the 15 yarder and move on!

According to the discussion on the Officials Forum I linked, the snap is legal. It's the deception prior to the snap that is illegal.

Not trying to split hairs, I'm just trying to understand the entire issue. Maybe I'll purchase the footbal rule book for NFHS.

Agreed the snap is legal. Why would a coach at that level want to run a play like that? To stroke his ego? These are kids. What good could that have taught them?

That seems pretty crappy to me. Either line up and run a PLAY, or pull that?

I thought the point was to win, albeit legally. If that was legal why not? I remember some coach pulling that in youth football and even then we knew once the QB got the ball, tackle him. We returned the ensuing fumble for a TD.

This is YOUTH football. IMO, learning to be a good sport is critical at this stage. It doesn't seem right to me.

Exactly. That is what bothered me with the play.

Not to mention that the coach was probably ready to yell and pout and make kids run laps if the play didn't work. A crappy move at that level, indeed.

Of course, if a coach ever got a kid to pull the "Ouch! My ankle!-and-go" route, I'd buy him dinner. :-D
