New Verbal

Post by bg sports fan »

Freddie Barnes from Flossmoor IL a QB has given his commit to BG he stands 6'1-6'2 180-190 runs a 4.6 and he is also the starting PG on his bb team so who knows he might just want to play both sports here :)

Do we really need another qb at this point in time. Maybaye next year we should go after some , but not this recruiting year.

Two things ...

1) Verbals are just that, verbals. If he gets what he considers a better offer, he could give that school a verbal.

2) Being a QB in high school doesn't equal being a QB in college. Case in point - Cole Magner, a high school quarterback.

We need athletes. If this is kid does, in fact, end up coming to BG and is a great athlete, we'll find the right spot for him.

That's right. On lots of high schools team, the best player on the team is the QB automatically. We move them around.

Take this for what it is worth, but Rivals.com has Freddie Barnes rated as the better prospect when comparing him with Kevin Leady.

5.3 to 5.2 both are 2 star recruits

In case anyone missed, Leady is still coming to BG, but now it is a baseball schloarship.

The other thing about QB's is you never really now if one of them is going to work out the way you think they will. Case in point, Ryan Leaf was a decent college QB and most thought would be a good pro QB but that was a failure. :P  8)
Whose to say that this kid won't come here as a a QB and be a better college QB than anyone we have on the team right now? I dont think its a bad thing to recruit one new QB a year, especially if the kids an athlete and doesn't mind switching postions to something that he's better suited for.

Thats my 2 cents.

If that's the case doesn't the "Bear Bryant" rule apply? Players on athletic scholarships can't play for a team with more schollies than the scholarship they have. So, a football player on scholarship can play baseball, but a baseball player on scholarship can't play football.

This is what Greg Paulus from a high school near Syracuse is facing. He wants to go to Duke on a hoops scholarship, but he can't play football if he does . . .

Who cares if he (the QB) can play baseball. In fact, he was probably a track star in High School --- about 84 per cent of the recruits are. The days of if-he-can-pitch he can play QB are over. QBs today need to be athletic, that means they need to not only be able to throw, but they need especially to be able to run, accelerate, all the things that make an athlete an athlete. In addition, QBs (like all football players) need to have a strong physical work-ethic and they're more apt to acquire that kind of attitude coming out of a strong track program where training of the physical is of utmost importance. And any coach who is worth his salt knows that!
