Post by Columbus Falcon »

I wonder if we have the longest Tourney drought in the MAC? Also I wonder how the dryspell rates with other teams in the country?

Air Force hasn't gone since '62. As far as the MAC, I'm not sure, still looking! :D

I'm going off this link --> http://www.ncaa.org/library/records/m_f ... dsbook.pdf

its the closest thing I've found to a list of tourney appearances.

EDIT: Air Force went last year, it hadn't updated on that site. Oops!

Last NCAA appearance for MAC schools:

Akron '86
Ball State '01
BG '68
Buffalo NEVER
CMU '03
EMU '98
Kent '02
Marshall '87
Miami '99
NIU '96
Ohio '94
Toledo '80
WMU '04

So as far behind as UT is, we're WAAAAAYYY back.

Nationally, of teams that have appeared in the tournament (since that's what the source gave me), and are still eligible to appear in the tournament (City College of NY and Loyola of New Orleans not applicable... though I *do* have a shot glass from Loyola of New Orleans...), the longest drought is Dartmouth in 1959, Yale in 1962, Tennessee Tech (I think they might be D-1 still, not sure) in 1963, and Columbia along with BG in 1968.

Wow, I guess I kind of knew that it was a long time since we made the NCAA tourney, but it's just absolutely shocking to see it on my screen. Embarassing to see how we stack up against other MAC teams. The NIT just doesn't cut it anymore.

The Red Sox can SD.

McLeod and co. should have made it, we deserved it as did butler. Whomever made us play each other first round NIT should have been shot for that one.

We are goign to win another national championship in hockey this year, so basketball may have to wait a year b4 its gets some magic, though i would love to see Reimold in the dance. He'd tear some $*** up!

I'll bet we have the best winning percentage out of those schools since our last appearance.

Great research TG!

Grant, love the new avatar hehe... kind of. .. My pop's senior year at BGSU...

I was thinking about this the other day when the Women's Soccer team made it to the NCAAs. I wouldn't know how to research it, but woudl be interested in the number I am looking for:

How many BGSU teams or individuals (as in track qualifiers) have made it to the NCAAs since our hoops team in 1968?

i.e.- how many times has BGSU been to the NCAAs since the basketball team has. . . counting a team as one (not 28 individual appearances for say the hockey team) and an individual qualifier as one. . .

Would be interested to see that. . .

You've only taken into account teams that have been there. Northwestern has never been to the big dance, and considering the multiple bids the Big TelevEN gets every year, that's huge.

That's all I had to go with, sorry. You're right, though, about Northwestern, but I can't think there are many other teams that have NEVER made it that have been D-1 for awhile.

Oh yeah, it also didn't include teams starting with G, H, or I, (I think), for some reason, that page wouldn't load. So it's not the most fool proof research, but I did what I could, and either way, 1968 is still pretty embarrassing.

Hey, I didn't mean to denigrate your research. I'm glad you have the energy to attempt it. I usually just make things up.

:D :D :D :D

Its all good! Though while we're making stuff up, lets say BG was in the tourney last year, its just that no one saw them.
