The "crowd-in-unison" traditions that take hold and last are the ones that start organically in most cases. Robotic chants and motions handed down from the administration will likely be frowned upon by students.

The 3rd down stop one is kind of cool though. Where can I buy a foam Falcon Talon? :)
As is usually the case when jacobs4heisman chimes in I agree wholeheartedly.

At least they are trying. It will be fun for kids and if we can get student groups to get on board it could really be something. The likelihood of all of them catching on, but if we try this every year and just one catches on every year it could make the games that much more entertaining. When I went to Michigan, Penn State a few years back the fans were all doing similar things in unison and the atmosphere was the best I have ever been around. Ohio States comes nowhere close.

The talon thing is a little querky but that does not mean it wont catch on. Most of the best ones are querky

I just don't like the idea of changing the words to Ay-zig one bit. It's quite fine the way it is and doesn't freaking need changed.

Why the hell do we have to try and get rid of old traditions to create new ones? Isn't a "new tradition" a freaking oxymoron anyways!?

I appreciate the effort. The spirit of the thing is in the right place. I just don't understand how there can be "new traditions." By definition, a tradition is "a long-established or inherited way of thinking or acting." So, if they've just made these things up, they can't really be traditions.
I know there are lots of Toney haters among the FMB alumni (I'm not one), but the First and Ten thing is sort of his legacy. It's too bad it's now gone.

First, you need fans in the stands to even consider this nonsense. Sweet Caroline? Makes absolutely no sense. It has nothing to do with prior traditions and will never be a tradition at BG. All of this appears to be some transparent and pathetic attempt to get students interested. A winning team would work much better.

As for Sweet Caroline, myself and a couple friends of mine are pretty big fans of that song, and we thought it would be a good thing to have them play to keep people vocal between periods at hockey games. We asked the PA operators to play it between periods 2 & 3 and they started doing it every game. People sang along and really seemed to enjoy it. I can't say that's why it's on this "New Traditions" card, but it seems like a logical jump to make.

I know a lot of people either don't like the song or don't see any relevance with it to BG (because there isn't any, I know), but I think at least the idea is in the right place. The song keeps the energy up and keeps people vocal between periods/quarters, which makes for a better atmosphere.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm happy that the athletic marketing folks were forward-thinking enough to get something in the hands of the students. I'm not overjoyed with all of the 'new traditions' either, but you've got to give them credit for trying to get the new students involved.

When did Sweet Caroline become a song that keeps energy up?? It's a song that most people only know three notes and make every attempt to sing them in a way that gaurantees a spot on the worst of American Idol show. What about Rock and Roll Part II, or Jump Around, or The Final Countdown? All of those songs are high energy. If Sweet Caroline is high energy for the end of the third quarter then lets add to that and play a Bach piano concerto at the end of the first quarter!

Can anyone actually name the last cheer our student section or the rest of the crowd for that matter has made up that has been considered a "tradition?"
I can't really think of any besides what our marching band plays. Take out the marching band and there isn't much. I applaud the athletic dept. for finally taking the initiative to get people excited about the game and have people actually pay attention to the game. In a few years some of these new cheers will be seen as a Falcon tradition.

Besides Ay Zig, the Alma Mater, and the fight song what other songs played have to do with BG. If with only played songs that had to do with BG things would get boring quick.

How sad is it that the season starts next Saturday and the things getting talked about the most are helmets, logos, and songs being played between quarters.

I'm ticked that they're dumping the "First and 10" chant. That was my favorite chant out of everything we did at games. Changing around the words in Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba doesn't make sense to me.

I agree with everyone when it comes to changing the words to Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba, not a fan of that. As for the rest, really don't have a problem with them. As for the "1st and 10" chant, I could care less, I never really chanted it.

I bet in a few days, the cards will be in the trash, holding bubble gum, and in a few months nobody will remember the effort anymore than the attempts at giving "terrible towels" and other such attempts.

Leave AZZ along, dump the stupid canned screech, and let things grow. The cannon, that was a fun idea. In any case, traditions only matter at BGSU if they sell a few more tickets or shirts, so screw it all.

Immediately following every BGSU 1st Down:
PA Announcer will say "...good for a Falcon 1st Down!", to be followed by the Falcon Screech canned sound byte.
The Falcon Marching Band (FMB) will play one round of Ay Ziggy Zoomba and all fans will chant/sing "Roll along, you BG warriors, roll along, FIRST DOWN FOR B-G-S-U!"
