NO American flag tonight!!!

Post by factman »

If we are going to host high school games, I think we should do it in a proper fashion and at least have an American flag on the flagpole. It was VERY tacky when the St Johns band played the National Anthem and there was NO AMERICAN FLAG VISIBLE in the stadium. I think we should get our act together. Very embarassing, especially to this veteran and many of the people sitting around me who hail from "Flag City", Findlay, Ohio. Maybe all of the veterans out there should send a note to GC and make this suggestion!

Speaking of SJJ band, who are they and where do they come from? I noticed they were about half female, including the flag corp, and I don't believe SJJ has any female students, but they were announced as SSJ marching band!

Usually the Catholic schools in Toledo will team up with their female counterparts (Ursula, Notre Dame) and have them join their bands. Catholic schools aren't noticeably good in the arts as it is not a main point of their education, so the SJJ band without the females wouldn't have been more than 40.

Agree though on the American flag...very poorly done and embarrassing. There was a great crowd there tonight, I went to support Findlay, gave $5 to the Red Cross, the least the stadium people could have done was invoke just a little bit of patriotism.

My disappointment there there was not an American Flag present can be summed up in 2 letters...JE. But then again I have never understood why out Army/Air Force ROTC does not raise the flag as the band is playing the National Anthem. That has never seemed right to me.

It's the little things!

No Flag
Music playing over the announcements.

Yes, it was "only" a high school game, but these things need fixed. It's so frustrating when things like that continue to happen!

If this only happened with outside events I might be a little more understanding but this happens with BG events. Hopefully things will change soon and we can get to an acceptable level of competence.

Flag display and national anthem is standard procedure at any athletic event (even at many youth events since 9/11). NO EXCUSE for this.

It is as simple as running the flag up the pole before the fans arrive and bring it down after the game. Nothing fancy, no special groups needed, just display it.

Wow...that is not good to hear. :x

We cannot afford to be "Bush League" in any aspect of our university events and something as simple, yet so very important, as not having an American flag present is bush league.

I'm sorry all the veterans had to witness that...everybody else as well.

OK Journey, I'm not "picking" on you (commented on your take in another thread)...but I guess I'm not "IN". What exactly is "JE"?

I'm very confused. I thought the game was to be played tonight. Is this just pre-emptive complaining, or did I miss something?
