St.Johns-Findlay game at the Doyt Thurs.....

Does anyone have an attendance figure that game? I'd like to know if we should be least bit worried that a HS game could outdraw the Falcons first home game vs Temple. My personal feelings the game didn't. I fully expect around 16k-18k for the Temple game.

It's my understanding that the crowd was SRO. I believe that the city of Findlay chartered a fleet of Nash Amphicars to transport its townspeople to the game.

I expect the Doyt to be about sold out pending weather, for the temple game. With the Sebo dedication and new turf, that should generate enough interest to sell it out on that special day.

We did open up against Temple in 2005, and the attendance was pretty good on that day. I hope for the same kind of outcome here. Of course, looking back on it, we knew we would be good in 2005, which helped get fans into it from the start. I have to wonder if fans will be skeptical about the team going into this season, resulting in lower attendance early on. Secondly, the weather was nearly perfect that day, about 70 degrees and sunny.

Nice asterisk there, because if Temple beats us again, we won't see another crowd of over 10K until Toledo. There will be a mass exodus, and people will start rooting against the team in hopes of Brandon getting the hook at season's end. This town and this fanbase is not going to put up with another embarrassment like we had last October in Philadelphia, especially with GB entering the season on the hot seat as it is.

We haven't played a game yet and the best thing to discuss is the "what if..." scenerio on losing games and finding ways to fault our attendance? BG has a fanbase, small at times, that is larger than any local high school. The fanbase is looking for improvement along with the coaches, team and athletic department. Nobody wants to fail.

Two things I wish all Falcon fans would do this year are:

1) Remember that the bad stretches in each and every program simply make the good stretches that much sweeter. In order to avoid being that bandwagon fan we all must suffer the agony of defeat in order to really understand what a championship means to a program, a university and to the fans.

2) Love the ones your with. The fans that are there are more important than the empty seats even if they are from other schools. Enjoy the people who are there and maybe they'll come back again and again with other potential fans. There is no use complaining about the 3 girls that didn't show up at the party when a perfectly nice girl is sitting next to you. Get to know her and enjoy.

If more fans focus on the positives and enjoy themselves the more each program will grow. Think about how many times our successful teams (WBB comes to mind) compliment the fans and great community support. I think we forget that the best part about BGSU is the people. You are the people that create the reputation, recruit the students and student/athletes and keep the alumni coming back. As loyal fans your attitude guides the future of the programs. You don't need to happy about losing but you don't need to throw the whole program under when things go sour. When you show unconditional support with a positive attitude the programs will build for those fans who have supported them the whole time.

I heard from folks at The Blade that there was around 5,000 people at the game Thursday night. There would have been a good deal more if Findlay hadn't had their horrible flooding, but 5,000 for a Thursday night HS game is a huge success.

And that makes me ill. I only made the comment because it's probably somewhat the truth. I don't even think GB's on all that much of a "hot seat" to begin with. Sure, he's gotta go out there and show improvement the next two years, but this university's track record with coaching buyouts shows that he's got two more years to prove he's not the coach some people make him out to be.

Also, if it takes crowds under 10K to keep those who are going to root against THEIR TEAM at home, then so be it. I don't have time for (folks) like that.
