Dan Macon is now playing WR. (I may have just lost a bet.) (Our RB depth is absurd)

PJ Mahone is back to safety. True Freshmen Glen Stanley is listed at 2nd at WLB

Only three true freshmen on the 2 deep. Thats great news to me.

Macon at WR makes a lot of sense, with all the RB depth, he just wasn't going to fit there. He's got a nice frame and hopefully some good hands too.

Hopefully Mahone can have a break out year. Seems like the licking the troops took last year may prove to be good experience this year. Bring on Saturday!

I would still really like to see Mahone in the backfield...anyone who saw him run in high school knows what I am talking about...in the HS playoffs in fall 2005, he ran all over Toledo St. John's D and did it to plenty of other teams as well...oh well, hope he does well on the defensive side of the ball this year.

I freakin' glad he's back at safety where he belongs and can make the most plays. I wonder if the weights on some of the players is either wrong or not up to date or something because if DJ Young isn't at or over 300lbs by now I have no idea what our S&C coaches are doing. Young has the perfect frame to get seriously bulked up to play the pseudo "fat boy" role we need at DT/NG. There's no reason why he can't be our "Gabe Watson,Alan Branch" of the D-line.

This is, arguably, the best reason to be ultra-optomistic about the upcoming season, in my opinion. After having been completely impressed by CB last year, I have no doubt that we'll be seeing RB depth that we never dreamed we would see in a Brown & Orange uni.

While I agree that the talent is there at RB...we have to remember that of the top three at that spot only one of them (CB) has carried the ball in a D1 football game and he struggled a bit at the end of last season. Tehy might need a few weeks to adjust to the speed of the game.

I'm stoked that Schaefer has recovered enough to start at DE...he's really going to complement Briggs as the opposite end. Would have thought Davis would be a bit higher on the chart than he is right now though.

I'm glad that Brandon acknowledged the lack of depth on the D-line over the past year. Having 8 or 10 guys to rotate through makes it easier to play an "attack & swarm" type of defense.

I was waaaaaaay impressed that Schaefer moved past Hardwick on the end. Both are BiG boys and will be huge for the D.

As far as Davis, I talked with him Sat at the kickoff event and you would think he was starting. Talk about a guy that is ready to take the gloves off! He was tearing it up last year until he got hurt and he's busting at the seams to get going. Nick was raving about all the depth on the D line and how so many guys will be contributing. A total team player. I wouldn't want to be any Minny offensive players at this time. Slobberknocking will commence Sat night.

I'm gonna say it again...This D is gonna knock the crap outta other teams. BG gave up only 318 yards a game last year...it was the BiG plays that killed us. I wouldn't be surprised if we held opposing teams under 300 ypg for the season. And only TWO SR's on the starting 11 (Hargrove and O'Drobinak). Coach Ward, IMO, was a great choice to promote to DC. He'll get it done and has the respect of all his players. That is very evident.

IF Sheehan can manage the offense, which I think he can, and our ST's are improved, which they should be, look out. This team is more than talented enough to win the MAC.

I am totally behind Coach B and know he wants to win badly. Even the legenday Joe Paterno had a few losing seasons recently. It just proves it's pretty damn difficult to stay on top in any conference.

I like the fact most people are overlooking this team. Keep it that way.

BG will win the East and play for the title.

I'm going to go ahead and agree with Flipper on this one too...

My word of caution is the same as it was last year when we were super excited about the new kickers: THEY'RE STILL FRESHMEN (although Ransome is from a JuCo).

The fact is it's fun to get excited about talented Freshmen, but to expect them to come in and dominate is generally being greedy. It's definitely true that RB is one of the easier transitions to make though. On top of that Bullock is a proven commodity there, and I think he'll probably get about half of the carries. Geter & Ransom will probably take the other half.

I just want to temper the enthusiasm a touch, because no matter how talented Geter is if he were to come in and dominate from the start it would be an anomaly, and we shouldn't set expectations so high that he cannot possibly meet them.

As to the defense, it has me excited. I'm overall not that optimistic about this team, but the defense is the unit that I think can really make the next step. There is a TON of athleticism on the defense, more than I've ever seen at BG, and probably as much as any MAC defense I've ever seen. They were young & raw last year, but they showed some good things. Unfortunately they were hampered by some big plays. If these guys show they're ready to take that next step and get off the field on 3rd downs they could be a special unit. Minny will be a tough test, and I don't expect them to stop that team, but I think this defense is ready to be near the top in the MAC.
