Agreed. This is a Toledo problem, but it affects the conference, as well.BGDrew wrote:This is not something to be happy about.bgbrandon wrote:LOVE IT, good for toledo, finally making headline news..

It might not be something to be happy about...hurting the integrity of the game is never a good thing...it does, however, give us several ideas of things we can do on November 23rd to make fun of the rockets when they come to the doyt...ok, time to get serious...
I honestly wish this wasn't going on, especially at a MAC School. This is one of those things that takes conferences from "On the way up" to "On the way down." It also seems strange how McDougle was arrested because he was involved, yet in this article he denies knowing anything. It's the exact opposite of the Vick situation where he said he knew nothing and then admitted to everything. McDougle is the main man the FBI go after, he agrees to cooperate and now, all of a sudden, he knows nothing. This whole story is really sad and I hope all this crap gets cleaned up and Football Coverage can go back to being about Football.

OK so Toledo is in a whole lot of trouble, but I don't think it'll give the whole MAC bad publicity. Nobody thought badly of any other Big 12 team when Oklahoma got in trouble. Nobody views the entire WAC as having bad facilities just because Colt Brennan complained about Hawaii's locker rooms. So I don't honestly think that Toledo players' screw-ups are going to taint the entire conference's image, just their own.

Regardless of how we feel about Toledo, I think we all should still be supportive of those affected by these allegations who have nothing to do with this at all. Many of the players currently on the roster more than likely do not have anything to do with this, but yet it still affects them in a big way.
We know that McDougle and Co. are going to be dealt some tough punishments through this, but I think we can all agree that we want some sense of normalcy to this year's football season and not questioning if indeed a game is being fixed. I'm sure if we put ourselves in the shoes of a UT student or athlete right now...we wouldn't be appreciating the negative pub and general black eye our proud university will be receiving.
I understand once the UT game comes that we can poke fun at this, but until then I think the least we can do is still be supportive of our fellow MAC school and hope that these student athletes can enjoy their football career without this black cloud hanging above them.

I could be wrong, but I think the absolute worst thing that the conference, along with other conference schools and their fans can do in this situation is to appear supportive of UT. I feel bad for all who fell into this situation up north, but I'd rather not fall on a sword for a school that created an environment that lacked any control or accountability.

I agree with Bleeding Orange. While I realize that most of the team and staff and student body had nothing to do with anything that happened, if certain individuals did something then there will be repercussions. I'm not going to feel sorry for them and hope it goes away. I'm going to hope that they make an example out of those responsible to keep it from happening again.

Channel 13 is leading with it on their 5:00 news.... 13 is the ABC affiliate... ESPN and ABC are both owned by Disney, so I'm sure they share resources....

Alarms going off all over Las Vegas, the offshore casinos have Toledo flagged too, but the FBI is already ahead of the curve getting wiretaps on demand as far back as December 2005, while 12 months later the NCAA is leaving Toledo hanging from the bell tower for, oh, 5 or 6 months should do.
If this was in paperback, it would be pure John Grisham. I'm speechless.

Trust me on this one, they don't share resources...In fact, just because you're an ABC affiliate doesn't mean you get all the rights of ABC/ESPN...case in point, Women's NCAA Tournament 2 years ago, at Purdue...one of ABC's anchors/videographers tried to film the game thinking that because he technically worked for ESPN he would be allowed to. Next thing you know, his tape is taken away from him by an ESPN suit because ESPN has EXCLUSIVE rights to the Women's NCAA Tournament.
All that leads to this...all the info you see on ABC 13 tonight is information they gathered on their own.
