I think Davis and Kreider are both going to make the team. If Haynes keeps getting healthier, I have a hard time believing they'd cut him. It comes down to whether or not they want a sixth back, and if they don't, which 2 of the Davis/Haynes/Russell group they keep. I like what I've seen from Russell, and I'm not sure he'd last on the PS.

I have to respectfully disagree with this assesment. I've heard people call Corey a possesion receiver and I think that is unfair and mostly based on his stand-still appearance (read in to that what you would like). I think people see him as the heir appearant to Cole Magner. Magner is a prototypical route runner possesion receiver. Partridge is both quick and fast. Remember that punt return for a TD against Temple with only 10 guys on the field? Partridge could be a deep threat if we decided to open it up and go down field.BGSUFootballFan wrote:Also Corey Partridge is our only proven WR. He's a great assest to our team, but I see him as more of a pos. type WR and not really a deep threat. But he is defn the type to play his guts out and scrap for every yard he can get.

As a Lions fans...I can vouch for Calhoun's complete and total lack of talent. Matt Millen has garnered headlines for drafting Charles "CHeech" Rogers, Joey "look...I'm not gay, alright?" Harrington and Mike "I could have sworn I hid some Fritos in my helmet " Williams in the first round, but drafting guys like Calhoun, Shaun Cody, Teddy Lehman and Boss Bailey on the first day has been just as dmaging to the team.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I think they will keep Russell over Haynes. He is younger and Haynes has not shown he can stay healthy.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I think Davis and Kreider are both going to make the team. I have read in a couple spots that Kreider could be gone. This would be a horrible decision. He would be snapped up in no time, most likely by a division team

I had read that too, but after listening to Tomlin's soundbytes this week, I think they realized how bad of a decision that would have been.tiznow wrote:I think they will keep Russell over Haynes. Russell v. Haynes is an interesting debate. I'll take Haynes, because I know he would get snapped up immediately. There's a chance Russell could hang out on the PS for a few weeks in case of an injury.

I concur. His statements were that he believes the Gophers will rely on their running game and tight ends. I don't think that is because he thinks spreading the field is a gimmick, but rather he believes that Minnesota is too strong in those areas not to utilize them.hammb wrote:stpaulgoph wrote:Thanks for the clarification point.
I hope he appears less smug on TV than Meyer does these days 8)
But my point remains...a spread O guy calling another spread O guy gimmicky doesnt make any sense?!?!
Brandon doesn't come across as too smug, not like Urban. Urban is smug because he's damn good at what he does. Brandon isn't, so doesn't have the same cockiness/attitude.
I didn't see where Brandon actually said your offense was gimmicky though. He's just saying that he doesn't believe your team is going to fully give up the power sets it has feasted on in recent years. He doesn't buy into the fact that you're going to spread the field.

You have to remember that was TEMPLE. The year we beat them 70-7. Not to take anything away from Corey's speed, but a lot of our WR's looked fast compared to TEMPLE that year. Corey is one of the best players on our team, but I don't expect him to be a deep ball threat against a Big Ten team in our offensive system.Dayons_Den wrote:I have to respectfully disagree with this assesment. Can't assume that just because there are mixed opinions on the board about certain players. Kent State tonight gives me hope, seeing as Minnesota is in much of the same boat as Iowa State is, ISU may actually have more talent.
Point being, we obviously won't know until the first kickoff Saturday of how good anyone is. I know it'll be tough to defeat a Big 11 team, but anything is possible in today's college football.
