He deserves it so very much. I loved his mannerisms and demeanor throughout the game. Especially on 4th down and on the 2pt conversion. He looked like a LEADER out there!

Tyler Sheehan Named MAC Player of the Week

Sophomore QB earns league weekly honor after leading BGSU to road win over Minnesota.

Sept. 3, 2007

CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University sophomore quarterback Tyler Sheehan has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning (Sept. 3). Sheehan was named the MAC East Division's Offensive Player of the Week.

Sheehan, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (LaSalle H.S.), threw for 388 yards in his first collegiate start, leading the Falcons to a road win over a Big Ten Conference opponent. He completed 34 passes in 51 attempts, throwing for two touchdowns and catching a pass for a score, as the Brown and Orange defeated Minnesota, 32-31 in overtime.

Sheehan, who saw action in four games last year, obliterated all of his career records. He more than doubled his yardage total for all of last season, having thrown for 192 yards a year ago.

Sheehan also topped his career totals in completions and attempts, as the QB was 23-for-43 in limited action in 2006.

He had his first 300-yard game, his first two TD tosses, his first collegiate reception and of course, his first receiving TD (a 24-yard catch from Corey Partridge) in the win at Minnesota.

In addition to the TD tosses, which went to Eric Ransom and Marques Parks, Sheehan also completed a pass to Freddie Barnes for the winning two-point conversion in overtime.

Partridge was the offensive player of the week for the MAC's East Division. Akron's Reggie Corner was named the division's defensive player of the week, while Ohio's Joshua Abrams received the special teams P-O-W honors.

In the West Division, Western Michigan's Jamarko Simmons (offensive) and Austin Prichard (defensive) earned honors.

The Falcons, 1-0 on the young season, head to East Lansing this weekend to take on Michigan State University (1-0). That game begins at noon Saturday (Sept. 8 ) at Spartan Stadium.

Now, is this is same Tyler Sheehan that was on the team last year? j/k, I know it is and I am so glad he has come along like he has. I do hope, however, that they do something with AT to keep defenses on their toes watching for the pass or the run or both...but I digress...Tyler had a hell of a game and hopefully he continues it all season!

How many other QB's had better first career starts? His poise was unbelievable. I am still on cloud nine!

Andy Sahm had a hell of first start back in 1999. He threw for 300 yards and multiple TD's in the 34-23 win over the school up north.

Omar's first start was pretty impressive against a loaded OK defense. Didn't put up the yardage, but still very impressive.

He wasn't even sch3eduled to play as I recall. I think the starter got "caught by a train" and missed the bus to Toledo and was held out as punishment. Sahm came in and made everybody forget Sir Douglas Sahm, although in Doug's defense he was only playing with five, not eleven. Never repeated that success, really. Of course it would come against us.
