Mess? Well, the field conditions look to be a mess. If you care to explain yourself, feel free. However, I'm not going to lose much sleep over a "1-poster."

Even if you are right in calling that a "mess", which I don't believe you are, you fail to ackinowledge that was 2002, and this is 2007. Things have changed within the group, and the FMB has improved greatly since the time of that show, which, in case you couldn't tell, was performed in some of the worst marching conditions imaginable!

You're thinking of Horns. Since the only requirement in playing saxophone is blowing a straight line and wiggling your fingers, a sax player can continue a "rif" well after being shot. Much like lopping off a chicken's head.

besides...when did we become the target du jour? whatever happened to clarinet bonfires? I can't help it if some rogue saxophonist uses 5-year-old video to prove how much of a maroon s/he is...some of us are very respectable, upright citizens...not me of course, but some of us nevertheless.

Relax. This was in retaliation from our Saxophone friend who called the FMB performance a "mess."

Your playing wasn't all that terribly offensive, if I recall correctly.

There's actually hope of tuning saxes horns et al together. Flutes and piccilos on the other hand, we may need MACMAN wielding a .50 cal to fix those intonation problems

Nah, my playing was decent, it's everything else about me that was offensive

And I knew you were chastising the one-post-wonder troll ^ there, and rightfully so. It's just that automatic inferiority complex us woodwinds have that kicks in at inappropriate times. Besides, I always admired your whistle technique

For once and maybe only once, I actually agree with that a lot. What a terrible sound they produce......it reminds me of the Madison Scout of the last decade. I'm not much of a wind player, but I know that they push way too hard for their sound. What a terrible, awful mess that hornline is.

Also, I do believe the IU is pretty fairly underrated in this thread so far, I saw them once and was pretty impressed. Maybe it was just a lucky day for them, but if that performance was typical, I'd put them just under U of M and MSU. Purdue was pretty large when I saw them too, and even though that doesn't mean everything, it was pretty cool.

Lastly, I would recommend checking out James Madison University's band. I recently transferred to Youngstown State and some of the guys here showed me a video of JMU's band from last year 1-AA playoff game against YSU and they were not only huge but had a great sound. I had a roomate several years ago that had transferred from there and they also have a very awesome showtune-style fight song......very unique.

Hey, I had the same roomate! I've heard nothing but good things about the marching Dukes of JMU!

He wasn't my roommate, but I will never EVER forget the JMU fight song. It was basically our 2nd unofficial fight song there for awhile... A "performance" of it is even in one of the FMB videos!
