As I sat in Spartan Stadium I too thought they should have gone for it on fourth and one. But, we got the ball back less than three minutes late and only lost 19 yards of field position.

In hind site...Brandon made the right call. The defense came up big on that next series. If go for it and don't make it...they have the ball close to mid-field and a punt from there would have pinned us down deep in our end instead of the mid-field where we actually got the ball back at.
Our defense is VASTLY improved...our speed is getting us to the ball in numbers ...the DL is enaging the OL and keeping them occupied...you aren't seeing our LB's and secondary getting mashed by the OL too much.

They're going to be fun to watch on that fast track at the Doyt
Definitely this team appears to be built for the new turf.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

How can you make a statement like that? You can't say it was right or wrong, just state an opinion. Any time you lose a game, you have to question every decision. Sure we got the ball back in decent position. But if we go for it, maybe we score a TD on the drive. Would you still come on here and say we should have punted?

Since our average play yesterday netted 4.5 yards, don't you think we had a better than 50-50 shot at converting? When going into a hostile environment against a "better" opponent, you have to attack them and stab them in the heart. You can't just throw shots to the gut and hope they go down. You have to take chances. And 4th and 1 in the opponent's territory is a risk that should be taken in this situation.

I'm thrilled with where we are two games into the season. Our defense and special teams are much improved and Tyler appers to be the real deal at QB. I am concerned that the Oline was dominated late yesterday, but I don't think that will be a problem against the D lines of the MAC and I think that we will get more balanced play calling as we get into the MAC schedule. I am also interested to see if we can work the ball downfield a little more against MAC defenses than we have attempted in the first two games.

We went 1-1 against a couple of the lower level Big 10 teams. If both of those teams would be in the MAC, they would be title contenders and MSU would probably be the favorite. We beat one and stood toe to toe with the other. As a fan, I'm pleased with those results.

Looking at the other teams in the East - Miami should be 2-0 and they would be my pick as the slight favorite right now (because they get us at home). Kent went to Iowa State and won (probably about as impressive our win at Minny), but got blown out in the second half at Kentucky. I would put them at a tie for second with us. Having to go to Kent scares me a little bit, but I certainly think that we can win there. OU gave up 500+ yards to Louisiana Lafayette and Akron has not done anything to make me think that they're better than a middle of the road MAC team. Buffalo is getting better, but I don't think they're a contender and Temple should get whipped by 5+ touchdowns every week. Emphasis on "should". Bottom line is that we will have three huge games in mid to late October that can put us in the driver's seat if we're healthy and we continue to play solidly in all three areas.

Hopefully the bye week gets everyone healthy and then we get two warm weekends and big crowds at the Doyt.
