Will Lloyd Carr finish the season at scUM?
If their misery continues will they cut him loose before their Big Game in November (ala Earl Bruce) or suffer through the end of the season?
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

1979 11-1 8-0 Earle Bruce
1980 9-3 7-1 Earle Bruce
1981 9-3 6-2 Earle Bruce

1983 9-6 6-3 Earle Bruce

1985 9-3 5-3 Earle Bruce
1986 10-3 7-1 Earle Bruce
1987 6-4-1 4-4 Earle Bruce
Not bad until '87 when he still had a winning record. And there's not much difference between the O and the M when it comes to their tolerance for losing.

But did he win it? No. Has he recorded more than a single win against the current OSU staff? No. How many bowl wins in the last five years? Losing to a good, but still 1AA team at home, then an unranked team from the PAC10? It is the John Cooper question. Sure the teams aren't bad, but even more so than with Ohio State, this is one of the true elite programs in the games history. And that team sucks. Pulling their butts out of the fire, that isn't what you have the guy for, not at that school.Schadenfreude wrote:The guy was one game away from playing in the so-called national championship last year. Why would you fire him?
He isn't a bad coach, and no, his teams aren't even "that bad" in a larger context. But it is UM, not some other school.

My buddies and I have been having this conversation over the last few days, mainly because I was (and to some small extent still am) a Michigan fan. Michigan has lost their last 4 games straight. I don't know when the last time that happened. My guess would be before Bo came on in 1969. U of M has looked terrible in their last several bowl games. They havn't beaten OSU in several years now. Plus now they've lost to two teams, at home, that they should have beaten the tar out of. I personally don't feel that Carr will fired mid-season. However I do feel that Lloyd finishes the season with anything less than an outright Big Ten Title, and a Bowl win, he probably won't be on the sidelines for the 2008 season. Right now I feel about Lloyd Carr the same way I feel about Greg Brandon. I'm not ready to call for his head yet, but he is on a very short leash.

The last 2 weeks have told me Greg Brandon has what it takes in ability and personnel to get the team up for big out of conference games. We will wait and see what happens once we are getting ready for and playing teams we should handily defeat. I am going to reserve judgment until the seasons at least half over.

Two weeks don't erase the last two years. Thank God you're not the AD.Schadenfreude wrote:Are you serious? I think we can see where this season is headed, and it will erase the past two years.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Two weeks don't erase the last two years. If Brandon leads us to a division title, he deserves an extension..

Well, the Minnesota win was very nice, but that team might not win more than a game or two in the B11. MSU *might* go .500. I think we have a good shot, and if Brandon can keep it together and win the MAC, an extension might be a possibility. After 2 games? I don't think so.Schadenfreude wrote:I think we can see where this season is headed, and it will erase the past two years.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Two weeks don't erase the last two years. Oregon is a hell of a lot better than Goofy wants to give credit. The Ducks are one of the best teams in the PAC 10. They simply kicked UM's ass. Their running game is top notch and they can play with any team in the nation. Don't kid yourself...Oregon is a PAC 10 title contender.
And why anyone wants to downplay the BG win over Minnesota and close loss at Michigan State is beyond me. They may not be the best teams in the league but ARE still Big Ten teams. I think by the end of the year, Michigan State may be in the top 4-5 teams in the Big Ten. They have some very tough conference road games (Wisky, OSU, Iowa) but will be a force under Dantonio.
Coach Brandon can't win, no matter what, with some folks here...the same that said we were gonna get rolled by both these teams. Open your eyes and watch this team before passing judgement. Sheehan appears to be the the man for the next few years. The ST's are VASTLY improved. The tackling on D has improved. ONLY 5 Seniors start right now....
Don't be surprised if BG is representin' the East division at Ford Field on Dec 1.

Give him an extension when his team WINS the MAC, not a frick'n division.
We beat Missouri in 1995 en route to a losing season and five more years to match it. I believe Blackney got an extension during or after that year as well. Got us so very far you'll recall. Before him, Moe swore he had the talent to win a title in 1991. Oddly, he was right, but he wasn't the coach that could have gotten it done. Should we have given him another five years to further destroy the program?
I hope for the best, hope springs eternal. I'll wait until the season has either tanked, or is close enough to over to be able to see what the general results are. But in no way does two weeks of play, out of the conference, with no impact on a conference title, am I going to say all is well. I think any talk of either firing him, or giving him an extension is insane at this point.
