MSU game balls...
1) BG LB corps. Haneline had another monster day...10 tackles. That's 25 in the first two games. Hargrove had 10 as well and Dozier had a big INT to thwart a MSU threat. This LB unit is fast becoming a 3 man wrecking ball.
2) Derek Brighton. Filling in for Corey Partridge, the Allen Park, MI, native came up BiG with 7 receptions for 67 yards. If you taped the game, watch the play from the 1st half where Brighton snagged a high throw from Sheehan, turned and saw #37, Ross Weaver, quickly approaching to deliver the hit in front of the MSU bench. Brighton lowered his shoulder and "Earl Campbelled" the kid. Knocked his butt down in front of the MSU bench, flipped the ball to the ref and jogged back to the huddle like it was nothing. THAT play showed me Brighton is another hard nosed WR like Kurt Gerling, Cole Magner and Corey Partridge.
3) Nick Iovinelli. Punting 7 times, Iovinelli averaged 40 yards per kick and placed 4 punts inside the MSU 20. This was a BiG key for BG to keep the Spartans pinned deep in the 1st half. Our kicking game has VASTLY improved.

I'm not ready to declare him the next Alaskan Assassin. He definitely had a great game against MSU, but I want to see how he keeps that going throughout the year. One of the few knocks against Partridge has been his inability to stay healthy throughout a whole year. If Brighton can play a full year taking the big hits, he'll definitely solidify his spot as a great one.

My game balls go to...
1. Adrian Baker- He was stuffing MSU all day in the back field & then made an amazing INT that turned momentum.
2. Sinisa Vrvilo- Another good day with XP's and a made FG. The 50+ FG that he missed was right on-line, kudos to him.
3. Derek Brighton- As everyone has said, he looked like CP out there and he's only a Frosh.

I'd have to say that Noah is pretty accurate!1987alum wrote:Well, Noah refers to Corey Partridge as The Man, as in, "Corey Partridge is The Man!" Though I guess that's not exactly a catch nickname.eRichFalcon wrote:Why don't we have some sweet, catchy nickname for Corey?
All I can think of is that, if Corey were to play on Sundays, is how Chris Berman would probably start referring to him as "Corey Partridge in a Pear Tree."
Finally a senior!

When referring to CP I always say "who is this kid" in a really sarcastic voice. Just bc the ESPN announcers always butcher his name or seem surprised by his level of play, even though he is pretty much our best player on the field every game. I'm not sure what game I got it from, but someone like Spielman must have asked "who is this kid?" So ever since then I say it too as though I'm some idiot who knows nothing about football, but gets payed to commentate it! haha

Spielman is far from an idiot when it comes to football. He's always been very complimentary of mid-major football despite his allegiances to that one school in Columbus. I love his CC because he has something that a lot of CC's don't have: passion for the sport.BGSUFootballFan wrote:I'm not sure what game I got it from, but someone like Spielman must have asked "who is this kid?" As far as nicknames, my favorites are Freddie "Superstar" Barnes and the "Bull" Dozier.

So true, Drew. I don't mind Spielman at all on broadcasts cuz the dude knows football....a lot. If he sees a team that can play, no matter what conference, he lets the audience know. I appreciate his honesty and knowledge about the game of football.BGDrew wrote:Spielman is far from an idiot when it comes to football. When it comes to breaking down the games that he's watching I think he's one of the best in the business. Somebody somewhere must not like his voice or delivery or something, because I'm amazed he's not moved up to a premiere analyst role yet.Falconfreak90 wrote:So true, Drew. During the Browns preseason Kosar was doing the analysis. His voice was raspy and he sounded drunk half the time, but my god does that guy know football. He was a joy to listen to, just for his insights.

I lost all respect for him when he said something to the like of "In order to win in college football you need to recruit really well. That doesn't necessarily mean getting the kids with good character, if you want to win you have to get some THUGS on your team."BGDrew wrote:Spielman is far from an idiot when it comes to football.
