Re: Nate Brown
I will get my facts straight, thank you. I'm not singling you out. You obviously have a problem with the way you perceive Coach Brandon to handle this team, so all I'm saying is, if that is true, start a thread about that, specifically. Let people discuss that issue based on it's own merits.zeket10 wrote:Hey Orange don't single me out like that, I don't single out any your posts I don't like. I would submit that you won't, of course, because you know that you would be decimated in a factual debate. So, instead, you insert these little petty jabs into whatever thread you feel you can get them into. I find that to be spineless and pathetic, and I'm calling you on it. Sue me.
Oh, and if you ever have a problem with one of my posts, I would very much appreciate it if you would make that known. I'm sometimes wrong, too (as hard as that may be for TG to believe

I remember AT taking snaps at QB during the 05 Temple game, Omar hasn't hurt, we were just destroying them.Flipper wrote:And BTW Zeke..both Van Johnson and Jason Washington took snaps at QB in 2004....

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers around here, I'm really not. And I’m not saying we should limit what we post on here “just” because a player might read it. I, like many people on here, have been unhappy with players and teams over the years and this is certainly a place where many of us come to vent about things, as well as celebrate and cheer. It’s a place where we can find mass Falcon fans who care about BG sports. Many of us are in situations where our spouses, friends, family or co-workers don’t fully understand, or even care that much at all for that matter, about a BG win or loss or what the Falcons do. That certainly isn’t the case for many of us who flock to AZZ. All I am trying to say is I just don’t understand why we are starting topics like this when it’s not even an issue. If Nate Brown said he was thinking about transferring, then yeah, let’s talk about it. But the kid has been in school like, what, a month already? And this is what we’re discussing about him? Like someone else posted, you could say this stuff about any number of players on BG, or any other team across the country for that matter. I look at the QB position at BG as a position in the MAC that is known for producing some very good players in recent years. We've had guys like Josh Harris and Omar Jacobs who both did wonders for our team, and now we’ve got guys like Sheehan & Turner playing now and guys like Glaud & Brown waiting in the wings. I am guessing they all would love to have the same impact as Harris & Jacobs did at BG. We appear to be loaded at the QB spot which is a complement to our coaches in their recruiting efforts and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’d much rather have a guy like Brown with talent ahead of him on the depth chart than having some scrub at that position just happy to be on the team. We have a really bright future ahead of us at the QB position for years to come with all of these guys. It’s sort of like what the RB position has become over at NIU in recent years with guys like Thomas Hammock, Micheal Turner, Garrett Wolfe, etc. Some of these guys were buried on the depth charts and were fighting for playing time and they certainly made a huge difference when it came their time.Globetrotter wrote:The idea that we should limit what we post because a BG player may or may not read it is absurd to me. This is not the BGSU official website. We are here to support BG but be realists. Take out the realist aspect and the discussions would not be worth it.BGSU33 wrote:The mere fact that a thread has been started about this topic is irritating as hell to me. Nate Brown is a Falcon. Nate Brown is on the team. And I hope he’s a part of the program for four more years to come. Why do we even want to think about him leaving BG? I look at it this way - you know some of the players look at this board. They’re probably told not to, and some of them probably don’t pay any attention to it at all. But I’m sure some of them do. If you were Nate Brown and you saw your name mentioned in a thread on here and you read it and the topic that was being discussed was thoughts on you possibly transferring, wouldn’t you be a little pissed off? I know I would. This kid has a chance to be our QB of the future. I mean I know we’re all pretty much free to post what we want on here for the most part, and I love that because we get to discuss so much information about BG sports and I can’t think of a single place we can gather more information about BG sports than right here on this site. But with all the things we could be discussing on here, I wish this topic wasn’t one of them. Nate, if you’re reading this, I hope like hell to see you here for four more years!!! I think he’s got to potential to be an outstanding player at BG. That’s all I have left to say about this.
GO BG!!!

I see your point about singingly out a certain player and definitely think it has merit, especially in this case as my previous posts have indicated. In some cases however the structure of the depth chart is one where the one player is the only player who would likely transfer.Flipper wrote:That isn't realism at all...it's petty gossip tied to the supposition that an individual player would find the success of a teammate so daunting that he would pack up and leave. the whole premise is tied to the thoughts of an individual who resides completely outside of the body and mind occupied by the one person who has any real insight into the topic...that being Nate Brown himself. There's no "realism" in that process at all.
Why single out Brown? Why not simply say "gee... the early success of a number of players might concieveably lead a few guys behind them to consider moving on in search of more playing time". Even that wouldn't be considered "realism" as it contains the very large supposition that playing time is the central factor in determining if a player stays or leaves. I think Myle's pizza plays a larger role.
As far as transferring goes, I would think that the overriding factor should be playing time. These people play football, they bleed and sweet for the game they love. Not playing, when there is an opportunity to play, has to frustrate them more than anything. I would bet that most players also see playing time as a route to larger success in the sport, however unlikely it is for them to make it to the NFL, Canada, AFL, it is impossible if they are not playing.
But that's just it. It's NOT all about playing time. Every team in D1A has 85 scholarship athletes, but only 22 starting spots (24 if you include K & P). That leaves 61 kids that are backups, redshirts, or whatever.Globetrotter wrote: As far as transferring goes, I would think that the overriding factor should be playing time. It's like that on EVERY team.
Nate Brown came to BG for whatever reasons (I'm guessing he liked the system, the coaches, the campus atmosphere, probably the girls). Whatever those reasons were he knew at the time we were returing a Jr. Starter, had a So that saw playing time last year, and had a RS FR, that would all be ahead of him on the depth chart. In the face of all that he still chose BG. Clearly he was comfortable with sitting back and learning for a couple years before stepping up with a chance to compete for the starting role. The thought that the sophomore ahead of him is playing well would cause him to change is mind is just laughable to me.
If it were a younger player that had leapfrogged somebody on the depth chart, I suppose I could see where you'd have this speculation, but it would still be JUST speculation. The fact is Nate Brown knew our situation when he got here, and I don't see two good games changing his mind about where he wants to play college football.

And none of that addresses the central point...unless the kid, kids or kidz in question initiate some discussion of transferring or actually do so SPECULATING about the possibility is not in any way shape or form a conversation based on realism. It's fiction, idle gossip, petty rumor mongering, mental masturbation and a wild guess but it is not a process based on "realism"

The idea that something like this could happen is realism.Flipper wrote:And none of that addresses the central point...unless the kid, kids or kidz in question initiate some discussion of transferring or actually do so SPECULATING about the possibility is not in any way shape or form a conversation based on realism. In this instance I agree, if Brown is thinking about leaving I don't see how he can logically come to that conclusion based off playing time. I agree with all of that, that is not realism.
Play out this scenario. Last Year at OSU it was Pittman, Mo Wells and Beannie Wells. pittman saw the majority of the carries. Mo Wells saw the second most in the beginning of the year but by the end was clearly third string. Mo Wells is a true sophomore with a true freshman above him on the depth chart. To not discuss the idea of a transfer there seems to be looking at the scenario blindly.
