Current students, here is your challenge

OK, if an ID is all that's needed, what's to keep people from going through several turnstiles at a given game? I'm just asking.

I've convinced a few OSU fans to make it out since the Bucks are playing Northwestern, who can't even beat Duke. The noon start may hurt a little bit for student attendance because of all the hungover kids from Friday night, but I'm sure there will be a strong group. I'd like to see the university do more to promote students going to the game.

JP, I've heard this B.S. before...that a NOON start is "too early" for our poor little students who got plastered the night before... and I'll say it again...it's B.S! I know that I'm a naive "old man" who only went to ALL games when he was a student, no matter the starting time...But then, I also didn't go out on Fri. nites to get drunk either!
I know that Hambb has constantly defended student atttendance on this site, and I only hope he's right...I'm currently dealing with two recent alums (07 grads) who like to wear OSU stuff and watch OSU play, but rarely, if ever, come to BG events, even as students. My wife says I'm crazy to be upset by this, that anyone has the right to root for whomever they please... to a point I agree, but when it comes to your alma mater, there should be NO question! (one of those grads is her daughter, which might explain part of my wife's stance).

When I went there (later Blackney era) tailgating was pretty much unheard of, not to mention that going to the game was an after-thought. Glad to hear things have greatly improved!!!

Thank Urban for that re-birth; both in regards to the product on the field, and his charisma with the students.

Like I said, my FR-Jr years were the final of Blackney's tenure. My buddies and I started tailgating for every game our sophomore year, I think, and we were pretty much the only ones out there (by the overpass on the south end of the lot. Later we went to the north end after finding this website and meeting the great folks here. It wasn't until the Meyer era, though, that tailgating became a "cool" thing to do on Saturdays in BG. That seems to have maintained pretty steady for the last 5 years too.

I was there for the last two Moe years and the first two years of Blackney. There was a rebirth of students going when Blackney came. At first Blackney had charisma. It shows that if you have success, people will come.

I was at that game...I saw the whole freakin' meltdown happen right before my very eyes...All I can remember yelling over and over again is "HE'S GOT THE BALL! TURN AROUND!!! HE'S GOT THE BALL!!!!!"

But alas, it was as effective as me yelling at Sonny (every time) not to take the causeway...

I'd like to see the university do more to promote students going to the game.

In response to that, I was walking through the dorms this evening and noticed that in all the dorms I went in, on pin boards, RA's doors, bathroom doors, what-have-you, there is always somewhere that students look and see an ad for the BG-Temple game, and a good majority of them aren't just copied pieces of paper from a lab. So obviously, someone realized that in order to get students to the game, they have to advertise to the students in the dorms. It's basically done in a way such that a student sees at least one of these ads for the game even if they just walk straight out the door to go to class. Now whether or not students look at these and read them is a different story.

Well, I know I'll be late to the game. A noon kickoff is bad for me. No, not because I'll be hungover. More like I'll be at work all morning from 5am - 2pm. So, I'll be going straight to the game after work.

Promotion is not an issue - anyone who has any interest in the game knows when and where it is by now.

The past couple years there wasn't really that buzz around campus about the team. Maybe it was that Minnesota win, but people are talking about the team again, and it's good to hear.

Students who want to be there, myself included, will haul their hungover/possibly sill drunk asses to the parking lots at 8 am and start having a good time before they cheer on the Falcons. Don't be surprised if Saturday is the most students the Doyt has seen in a couple years.

There are concerns about the attendance for the Temple game voiced in various threads across the board. At this point, most of use old-timers (and out-of-towners) have decided whether or not we're going to be there.

But what about the students?

If you're a current student, you can have an impact. I'll assume (dangerous as that is) that most of the current students who post here will be at the game. If that's so, here's a challenge for you: How many people can you bring to the game that probably wouldn't be there otherwise?

This is a big game not just for this team, but for our program. We're unveiling a new field and a new student-athlete center.

So how about it? How many people are you bringing with you?

I just want to say this is one of my all-time favorite posts. If everyone does there part in bringing some extra people to the game we could make a huge impact!

As I have posted in another thread, I have 2 extra tickets for BG-WKU and BG-Akron that I'd be willing to give someone at the game on Saturday in hopes that they could find someone who wouldn't normally go... PM me if you're interested!
